Greetings:
Thought I'd post a picture of Me Don, my wife Jan, Grandson Christopher, and Dog Lucy.
Lucy is an American Pit Bull, please don't judge her by her breed, she is a wonderful dog, and a loyal companion. Do you have a dog? How about some pictures??? By the way, everything made of wood you see in the picture was made by me, woodworking is one of my hobbies.

Only pictures of our mutt are Of him looking pretty and he doesn't normally look like that. I have a problem with wood- How do you stop it melting when you touch it with the Welder? I have only ever worked in metal so if you want to line my shed out sometime---

Welcome, Don. You look familiar - have I seen you on the Stateline 60 or some other local ride? I'm in the Fox Valley Bike & Ski club down in the St. Charles/Geneva area.

Funny you should ask - we just rescued a Golden Retriever about 3 months ago. The former owners got him as a pup, tossed him in the yard, and ignored him for 8 months. Wild as a March hare, but not a mean bone in his body, and smart. He's a handful, a constant source of entertainment, and an excellent partner for our 11 year old daughter.
Since we've had him, he's socialized nicely and is a wonderful addition to the family. Maybe next season he'll be ready to hunt - that would be icing on the cake!

Here's Rebel, she's about 13 years old. My daughter, now 29, got Rebel when she (my daughter) was a junior in high school. She's a "Safeway" dog. "Can I keep her, Dad?" "No," I said. "Oh. We already got her shots." I think she is now my dog, since my daughter has been out of the house since 1995.

Your Golden look just like our Chow/Golden Mix. She is a sweetheart for a rescue dog, but don't mess with her! When we got her she was impounded for biting a cyclist, turns out he kicked her first, and she has never chased or even barked at a bicyclist since we got her two years ago.

It's nice to see that (almost?) everyone posting here has a rescue animal as it's really good to know that those dogs got a second chance in life.

Thought I had a picture of our Golden, Abbey, about but I can't seem to find it. I'll hunt one done.
Without a doubt, best dog breed on the planet. Wonderful, wonderful dogs. Ours is now coming up on 16-1/2 years old and still going, if a lot slower than she used to. Not an ounce of "quit" in this girl. No, no.

We finally got the one I posted above (Cody), and are in love with him. But he's got some big "shoes" to fill.

Don,
Welcome aboard.
With your wood-working skills, any chance that you will have a wooden bicycle for us to see in the future?

Another rescue dog here as well. Named her after my son's favorite food.......Sushi. Puppy was about 8 weeks old and my wife and kids found her nosing around a dumpster at the drugstore in the rain on a really cold day. When they brought this one home we already had one dog too many so we had a family meeting where I showed them how much a dog costs, their responsibilities, etc. The cost projections have been pretty accurate but the responsibilities........well the kids are off in college and dog is still here.
Best dog we've ever had though. Smart as she can be. Must take after me..........

Dehesa is our Rottie mix (probably Queensland Heeler?) and Fritz is Shephard, Chow Chow mix probably. Found them both (at different times) when we were out cycling.
Dehesa is probably about 8 or 9 years old now. Fritz is just a little over 1

Is your yard fencing up to the job of containing a pit bull that wants to get out? Most suburban fences aren't. Also, many homeowners policies now exclude dogs unless you get an add on rider. Guess what? Pit bulls are difficult to get coverage for. That's why a friends adult kid heard this from his landlord; The dog goes or you go, take your pick! Just some thoughts on liability. bk

Bkaapcke noted. . .
>>> difficult to get coverage for
I was delving into my policy recently and was staggered to find that detail. There's a list of about five dog breeds that the company washes its hands of.
