74 miles with 3300' of climbing on 7/4 with 10-15 mph headwinds just about the whole way. I guess it was good training for Wyoming next week???

I'm chuckling. Either you were double checking to see if Thunder Ridge was actually 13 miles long or still looking for retirement spots???

51 tandem miles today - a club ride --> Cemetery Ride starting and stopping in Martinsville IN. That's right about where the hills of southern IN begin and we did visit a bunch of hills, but nothing scary.
Rode past 15 cemeteries. Saw no dead people nor any living dead.

Had our first and second tandem flats today. That's going back to 2000. Would only have had the first flat except that our mechanic was not thorough enough when replacing the tube to find the little piece of wire sticking through the tread and kevlar belt inside the tire. I was more thorough at fixing the second flat - removed the wire bit.

Out and back early this morning with a friend, 35 miles total. Unseasonably and pleasantly cool (low 60s F at the start) with a nice little tailwind on the return voyage. Great ride. This Independence Day weekend weather has been phenomenal for us so far as compared to usual in the deep south. Tomorrow is forecast to top out in the mid 90s F with humidity levels returning to typical, but I can't ride tomorrow, anyway. So there.

No bike lanes, but you don't need 'em The traffic isn't bad except in the fall when the leaf peepers are out. This area is fantastic for riding, but it is quite hilly. There are very few just plain flat areas to ride. Out of Buena Vista you could follow South River road up towards Vesuvius. This follows along the valley, parallel to the parkway, and is mostly pretty flat.

Oh, I found my spot! I just bought a house in Lexington. The riding in this area is just unbeatable. Hitting the BRP is just my "backup ride" in case I don't have time to plan out anything more adventurous If you're coming through and need a place to crash (the house is almost totally bare of furniture) let me know. You know the Mountain Mama ride is coming up in August, right?

14.8 mi., 11 of it hill repeats, so 5.5 mi. uphill for 1750' elevation gain.

A nice 44 mile ride this morning before the rain started. Very typical, crowded Sunday at the MUP. Good ride even with the crowd.

Congratulations! That is really a beautiful area and can see how fit the bill. I need to look into Mountain Mama. Not sure how it will fit this year, lots of stuff already planned for the next month plus so we'll see.

My wife decided to stay another day at the Lake so in order to get back home from the in-laws for work I rode my bike back. I took a little shorter route than Friday but it was still around 57 miles, and against the darn wind, but it wasn't blowing as hard as it was on Friday.

My sweetie and I did 36 miles on the tandem. Didn't expect to do much more. Our band closed out a festival in Connecticut last night so collectively we had less than 10hrs sleep. Halfway through the ride the front derailleur cable started unraveling at the lever, so I kept it on the middle ring the rest of the day. Replaced the cable when we got home.

Sunday I picked up where I left off from Friday's ride, from Peaks of Otter down south past Roanoke Mountain. About 85 miles. These two pics are from a spot where the parkway runs right along the top of the "ridge" of the Blue Ridge. The first pic is looking West into the Shenandoah Valley. The second pic is looking East to the piedmont area between Lynchburg and Roanoke:

20.10 miles this morning. Pretty hot out. I'm riding about 120 miles a week this the start of my sixth week. I ride six days a week. How many miles a week should I be at before attempting a century ?
