As long as you keep moving, you get "air-conditioning." Once I stopped, I had sweat all over my arms. I finished the ride coated with a layer of salt.

Some of my best road races were in Mexico and Guatemala, on the coast where it gets really hot. My body just seems to work better in the heat. Put me in the cold and I have a hard time warming up!

That's incredible and for me, unthinkable. The last time I rode here when it was hot (103 on the bank display at 5:30 PM) I rode 30 miles - drank two 12 ounce glasses of water before I left, drank three 24 ounce bottles of water and 32 ounces of gatorade on the ride. And when I got back to the house had still lost a couple of pounds

My Simple Tips for Hot Weather Cycling

I'm not an expert, just a warm weather rider.
  • Ride early in the day if that works for you
  • Drink a quart of water well before starting
  • Drink frequently as you ride and refill before your supply gets low
  • Wear light colored wicking clothing
  • Avoid strong tailwinds as possible
  • Seek shade for cooling breaks
  • Ride well within your capabilities

If you do not feel well while riding, get cooled with minimum delay. Do not tough it out. If you start feeling confused or disoriented, contact emergency medical help.

I forgot to add that I do take a vitamin D supplement. Still with all that I do get the occasional although mostly mile anxiety/sad attack

Same thing here in S. Louisiana, where a low came last week, soaked us, went next door, back down to the Gulf and returned this week...to soak us.

Last Saturday morning I rode 38.7, drained my 70oz hydropak, a 20ox gatorade and had refilled my hydropak at a park. Lots of moisture, and a payday King size candy bar. I sweated like Bernie Madoof's wife.

What is "S.A.D."?
I kind of like the occasional overcast day. Nice break from the glaring sunlight.

I live about an hour up the road from Red Rider, in Lincoln. Ditto on the cool weather. It has been great for riding. Mid 80s to 90, but we get home by 12:00 - 1:00, so beat even that heat. We comment on how great the weather is every day we ride.
