My sweetie and I did 44 miles today, the entire length of the Cape Cod Rail Trail, Dennis to Wellfleet and back. This is about as colorful as Cape Cod ever gets! More or less.

I assume you're asking me and that the T1000 must be a tandem, but what do I know? No it isn't a Trek. It is a 1982 Peugeot TH8. I resurrected it last winter. The black stoker's crank is an Andel cut down to 140mm by Mark Stonich. The captain's crank and pedals, the brakes, rear hub, and a few other parts are original. The derailleurs are Simplex to keep it French!

Every Fall, starting in 1997, I've organized a "Fall Colors Ride," in which I invite members of my department to ride with me along a bike path. The initial rides were at the beginning of October, but I learned that the best colors were around Halloween. This year's ride was scheduled for October 29, the day the Northeast Snow Storm hit (kindly sent our way by Denver Fox!). On Friday I posted an update and emailed the participants:
"The weather forecast is calling for 5 inches of snow in Califon (midpoint between High Bridge and Long Valley) Saturday afternoon. Also, fairly high winds and a generally nasty day. So the ride is postponed until Sunday. Forecast for Sunday calls for cold weather-mid 40s for the high. In this case, the snow (if it materializes) may not even melt, and the best we can expect is for the path to be soft and muddy, in which case we'll just cancel."
Well, the snow materialized, and in fact, I had no electricity, land line, internet, or cell phone (towers apparently without power) and I was unable to let others know the ride was canceled, but they all managed to figure it out.
This past Sunday I tried again (by myself), went for a ride, and spotted this example of Fall Foliage:
Seriously, it was a beautiful fall day and there were lots of photo ops,
Here's the complete photo album from the ride.

Good Sunday ride.
This is the overlook, above Path Valley on Tower Road, looking north. As you can see, most of the leaves are gone.
A view looking down into McConellsburg from the "hang gliding" area.
My first mile of riding to get to the overlooks. I rode up and down the mountain 3 times before calling it quits.
This is one of three platform/ramp areas for the local hang gliders to use. The view is just off of Route 30, on Tuscarora mountain, looking north.

On my ride this morning, I watched the progress of a new beaver dam abuilding in the creek. 2 years ago the flood control/drainage folks cleaned all the willows out of the gully, and destroyed a couple of beaver dams. Well, they are persistent little critters, and, behind the willow sticks you can see a new dam taking shape.

Here are some shots from last week's "leaf ride".
This one from Whitehouse Rd. southeast of Fayetteville. Shot from the bridge looking down the creek.
This one is from a little farther down Whitehouse road. It's a nice place to stop, take a break, "smell the roses" etc. Actually the best place to take the break is atop the rock.
U.S. Highway 71 looking north on the return leg of the leaf ride. The road goes over this little hump, dips down a tad, and then banks right and up for more climbing. Vistas were great looking across the valleys.

Amazingly, most of the folks on this well-used trail haven't a clue that is a beaver dam, or that there is even a dam there. We have (had) beavers just about .5 miles from my house. For some reason, the dam has fallen apart, the pond is dry, and I no longer see the beavers. Maybe they moved upstream to the new location??
