It's a woman's prerogative to change her mind!

N+1 was a Trek Madone 4.5 wsd - nice bike, fit perfectly, but I didn't like the way it shifted, had it in the shop several times and never could get it right. A 'bird' started chirping in the bottom bracket, and from the start, I didn't like the Shimano 105 components.

So I looked online to see what it would cost to upgrade to Ultegra.

Got out the calculator and decided the best thing to do was trade it in for a Madone 5.2wsd with Ultegra components which had the same frame so the fit would be identical. My bike shop made me a great deal!

Now I'm a happy camper and here is my NEW N+1! My poor relatives - there probably will be no money left to leave them in my will when I die. Too, too sad!

Hey Lookinup,

What Trek geometry did you get with this frame: H1, H2, or H3?

That's a beautiful bike. It's nice to see a WSD frame in a darker color.

Love the new bike

You're giving me ideas about trading my Madone in on a new one. Mine is a 2007 5.0 WSD with Ultegra and I love it. I've only had a few problems with the shifting and I imagine most of it was operator error

Canondale saddlebag on a Trek? It might explode.

But it's a very cool bike. I don't know of any unhappy 5.2 owners.

A very nice present for yourself that I'm sure you very much deserve. I just did the N+1 in January with a new Colnago. I also love the Ultegra groupset that came with it. So far, it has not given me any shifting issues.

My poor relatives - there probably will be no money left to leave them in my will when I die. Too, too sad!
My sentiments, exactly! My bucket list is way too long to be worried about leaving anyone any money that might be leftover by the time I finish my list.

No doubt a very good upgrade, but shame on the LBS for not properly addressing the 105 shifting issue.

We're on a similar path. I just traded in my 2011 Madone 4.5, which was a great bike, for a 2012 Madone 5.2. I'm very anxiously awaiting the 5.2's arrival.

GREAT looking Madone. I've got a Bontrager RL seat on my CAAD and a Specialized Avatar seat on my Cannondale Quick. So far so good, neither has blown up!

I've never found a bike shop that was willing to take trades. I don't know if that's a good thing for me, or bad.

My LBS takes selected trades, I bought it new from him almost exactly a year ago. The 2011 Madone 4.5 is a very nice looking bike in nearly new condition, he'll have no trouble moving it and he did alright by me on the trade in price.

Very nice bike! I really like the Ultegra 6700 components on my bike, but I'm surprised to hear that there was so much of a noticeable difference from the 105 5700. Would not expect there to be much if any difference. I suspect there was something wrong with the setup or possibly a defect with the components on your 4.5.

Don't the "change my mind" group set come as a standard component with the double X model?
