I am totally back on the road....

In the end of Oct. I started riding Saturday rail/trail rides. Have done three rides for a total of 100 miles. But, I have been concerned that my new neck would never allow me to ride my road bike. Left me very bummed out. But, encouraged by the rail/trail rides I went out with a group of about 15 club members for a 35 mi. road ride. It went so much better than I expected. I was still totally lacking in fitness and the hills were as bad as ever. But, the result was a fairly comfortable ride at 13.8 mph. I am pumped.

Got totally pumped from the trail rides and happy to still be above ground, so I bought one of these on a great sale...https://www.competitivecyclist.com/as...Y0NhdDEwMDMzMw

When I crashed in July I was wearing my one and only ever Assos jersey and it had to be cut off me by EMTs. It just felt like I had to make things "right,." It was waiting at my house when we got back from yesterday's ride.

Had to refresh my memory about your accident..... oh man, how terrible. Glad to hear you're back on the bike. It would have been easy to say "no more", but you didn't. Simply impressed and find this truly inspirational.

Having my Dad pass away on the 7th with the service on the 12th, I need some inspiration right now, and your story helps.

All the best to you Bruce and hope you make a complete and full recovery!

Thank you but your comments are what are truly inspirational. To know that someone can find inspiration in someone else's story is amazingly uplifting. This is us humans when we are at our best.

Bruce19: Your story and humor were an inspiration to me when I crashed, about the same time you did. Mine was a hip. My head, and the crazy brain it holds, we're largely intact (a relative measure at best).

When I went in for my defining X-ray, I told the tech it better be good, because I wasn't sure I had another rodeo in me. Truth be told, our number of rodeos is probably limited only by the imagination we have and the friends who are there to support us. You have made many friends with your story, and I, like so many, am so glad to see you back in a wheels down and head up position.

Congrats on crawling back out there. No shame in Rails and Trails, but all riding is good.

Keep on that healing track, sounds like you are ready to dig deeper!

Thank you. I hope all is going well for you. I would not trade my experience for anything. I know that sounds strange, perhaps even bizarre but I learned some valuable lessons. I learned, as a friend observed, that I could "take a punch." I learned that a positive attitude is the best medicine. I have been able to see life with a focus that I only briefly touched on before. And, despite daily reports to the contrary in the media, it has become obvious that people are generally caring about others. The responses to my story here, on a Ducati list I frequent and in day to day life have been amazing. My view and appreciation for life is forever changed.

Bravo Bruce.

The most remarkable part about this to me is that you don't seem to have any emotional barriers while on the bike, and in particular while mixing it on a group ride.

By next July I'll be 68. That's not too old to get in on the TdF is it?
