You can look at other hobbies and activities and figure out if you are over the top.

If your finances can afford it, then go for it.

But I would not lie to a spouse about it. That just opens up the door to many future problems.

By the way, I bought my bike off of fleabay As the story goes the person purchased it, found out that he really did not like biking, and put it up on ebay. MSRP for the bike at the time was 4K. I wound up getting it for 2.4K, and the tires still had the nubbies from the mold. Probably less than 10 miles on the thing.

Figure out your cost per mile.
It definitely won't be a garage queen, I'll ride it hard and put it away wet, just like..... Oh wait, that's a discussion for another forum.

Am I the only one that thinks of this when I see this thread's title?

Part of being a husband is telling "stretchers" to your wife.

Yup.

The song had and still has special meaning for us and was our wedding song.

Congrats on your marriage. Even though my wife and I are 10 years apart, we share a special bond as well.
I believe if the majority of U.S. marriages like ours.....America would be a much better place.

+1, John you nailed this one, IMHO. I generally talk about what my bicycle needs are with Monica and she supports me since I am up front and don't spend just to have something new. Bicycling has pretty much saved my life and she realizes this, also, she is a cyclist, too. We are at 37-1/2 years and its the best thing that ever happened to me, hands down, no exceptions.

We all have our reasons, methods and marriage issues, how we deal with them is each one's own business.

Bill

This song has a special place for us, too. Before we were married, we won 1st place at a lip-syncing party "singing" this song dressed in full S & C costume!

We ride a tandem now, so that's where the money goes. The need for whatever is obvious to my wife. She encourages me to buy whatever, since she also benefits. It's a good system. One of the reasons I suggested converting to the tandem life was that always nagging thing that riding my single and spending on biking was taking away sharing with her. It's a fix.

We have a custom Seven Ti tandem with couplers. My wife knows what it costs. She even insisted on the CF bottle cages.

But I lie to lots of other people about what my bikes and tri hobby costs.
