I really don't mind the cold weather, but the lack of daylight is a struggle. Going to work when it's dark and coming home when it's dark, even with more than adequate lighting on my commuter bikes, just doesn't cut it.

Sculptor, I began life in Brooklyn also but I'm a country boy now. You need to get cross country skis to find another season to enjoy. Nothing like cold air on your cheeks, spruce boughs bent gracefully bent down and laden with snow and your skis hissing as they glide effortlessly through a wooded trail. OK, so maybe not all that effortlessly but still, an excellent way to spend a morning.

always tracks from another bike already there. Cross country is a lot of fun, but I can't usually start at my house.

I used to be bummed this time of year. But, knowing that we'll be heading to FL sometime in November will let me actually enjoy this Fall. Could really notice the change toward Fall in the air just the last couple of days. They've been pretty hot and humid, but you can still feel the change.

Ahhhhh....blessed Fall. A short prelude to the best season of the year, winter. Winter when off road travel is easy. Winter when, finally, I can get comfortable by putting on another layer when, in the summer, no way I can take off enough to get cool. Mosquitos are under the snow. At last I can stop scurrying and be more deliberate. At least that is the way it used to be.
Now, I have some sympathy for folks who don't like winter. But, most of all, I miss it. Winter used to be fun. Now it is almost to the nuisance stage.

The Mums had a frosting of snow yesterday in the higher peaks yesterday.
But they never took the long underwear and winter coats off the racks.

I wouldn't know a "mum" if I saw one and wouldn't go to a food store looking for flowers in any case.

Here in Edmonton we have two seasons, construction and winter. It is starting to get a bit chilly in the morning. I travel east for about half my commute in the morning and I am pointed straight into the rising sun. Sunglasses at 07:00 am. In a couple more weeks, I will be in transit before the sun comes up. I still haven't made up my mind about commuting in the winter. I really can't see bicycling when it is -40 C. Metal, at that temperature, gets very brittle. I have broken tire irons changing car tires at that temperature.

When I lived near Palm Springs, I was always impressed that the Canadian Geese reached our location at the same time as the Canadian Snowbirds.
