We're saying the same thing. The fact that the levers touched the spokes and increased the folded width by a couple of inches (the bars protrude more) never bothered me. The fold was still fine, but I never liked the levers in the 6 o'clock position.

The 6 o'clock position is an excellent description of the “problem”. I’m sure something more akin to a 4 o'clock position would suit most people far better.

14R, the silver S stem that you stripped, what kind of clearcoat/varnish did you treat it with after stripping? In fact, how did you strip the paint in the first place/what was the entire process?

Did you keep that stem? I'm curious as to how spray can clearcoat over steel would hold up. The concensus seems to be it's no good for bike frames but folders are a different kettle of fish since they tend not to be left outdoors for long periods.
