Keep in mind that the boxes of mothballs are already sealed and short of slamming them on the ground and stomping on them will not open.
The old lady wasn't batty. The scent of the mothballs infiltrates the food. Have you never had a box of breakfast cereal that had been stored near laundry detergent or those "odor-eating" plastic trash bags before being put out on the shelves? The cereal absorbs the scent. The packaging materials--even so-called "airtight" bags--are not impermeable.

Many "everyday" scents, perfumes, and colognes are made from volatile organic compounds that are toxic; some are serious respiratory irritants or chemical insults to the central nervous system and brain. Unfortunately, these toxins aren't regulated by the FDA because we don't eat them. But you don't have to eat a substance for it to get into your body in quantities large enough to cause damage. Airborne molecules can enter the body through the membranes of the lips, by being breathed in, and you can also absorb them by skin contact.

In my opinion, the "unbalanced" people are those who remain blithe about this situation despite the ubiquity of these unregulated chemicals.

Put it on the lower level of the cart where you put pop and boxes?

The drive thru thing I understand. I worked at McDonald's for a few years during high school. While I would occasionally break the rules and serve a pedestrian or cyclist through the window, you're much more vulnerable to potential robbery than by a motorist. Its a lot easier to get your arm through the window while on a bike than it is while in a car.

"How germy could shopping carts really be? Very, according to researchers at the University of Arizona who tested all kinds of public surfaces. They found that shopping carts were loaded with more saliva, bacteria and even fecal matter than escalators, public telephones, and even public bathrooms.
The only surfaces that had more germs were playground equipment and bus rails."

You don't want all that garbage on your bike anyway.

Yeah, but its still easier to carry a weapon in a car. Who robs a place with their bare hands these days?

I have this secret whim of grabbing the McD cashier at the window and pulling them out and into my car then speeding off.....but then I come to my senses.....sort of.

EXACTLY what I was thinking. Or what about the little money burners that are cr*pping and spitting up in the cart while the oblivious owners are chatting away......
