by the way ....KHS Inc is just as good and sometimes better than any other bigger bike company

Beware of KHS F300 folding bikes
Dear F300 user,
I would strongly recommend you to abandon the idea to rebuilt those bike.
To my opinion this bike have a design strength problem in the area of the ear shock.
I bought a pair of F300 8 years ago, (at the age of 63) in order to run personal errand in the city with parking problems, Most of the time the bikes were in the trunk. The bikes are in mint condition, hardly ridden. Tiers and the break pads are the original ones.
Few weeks ago, without former notice all the 4 tubes, in the area of the rear shock, gave up simultaneously! I was lucky it happened in zero sped so I was not hurt.
Of course, KHS attitude is complete ignorance.
If you want to stay healthy throw the F300 to the nearest dumpster.
The design in the rear shock is no good!

All of the stays breaking simultaneously without any prior incident? I wonder if somehow something heavy got thrown into the trunk and landed on them.

Post a picture and you can probably find out more about what you bought.
I have owned at least 3 KHS bikes and have always been pleased with their quality. At most, KHS built the frame. The rest of the parts come from somewhere else.

What information do you want about your bike? I'm not sure exactly what an owner's manual-type set of instructions will give you. Maybe such a manual for a component that isn't working right, but those don't come with bikes anyway. You have to get them from the part manufacturer.

Service after the sale flows back Upstream from The dealer thru wholesalers, Importer, and then to the manufacturer , Which Now is across the Pacific .
quantitys Each>pallet of Cartons> Container full , To several containers at the shipping dock in Like Taipei Or Shanghai.
Leap frogging over that is like just walking into the White house or Buckingham palace looking for the Loo.

I have had 15 KHS bikes since the late seventies (along with about 30 others). I still ride my 94 & 99 Downhill bikes.. All have given me exceptional service, as well as the friendly customer service guys at KHS. Always very informative and will lead you in the right directions even if its out of warranty.
The notion that your bikes broke suddenly on all 4 stays at once is quite frankly, unbelievable. More along the truth is that a cracks started, and because you didn't do regular inspections to your aluminum frames, got big enough over time to have a catastrophic failure. Who's the fault really fall on? Not KHS!
No matter how little you rode the bikes, (which would be covered by KHS's 5 year aluminum frame warranty), the bikes are beyond their warranty period. Maybe if you had done proper inspections, you would have maybe seen the cracks developing within the warranty period. Thus being able to get your replacements.
So before you start slamming a good company with complaints, learn from your mistake, "INSPECT YOUR BIKE REGULARLY!!"
You are being unreasonable in expecting a warranty, when it is beyond the manufacturers warranty period. And clearly your own fault due to lack of inspection.

I guess the takeaway message from this thread is that the bike industry is one that does not place any real amount of significance on support for older or preowned models. Fair enough. It's news to me and I suppose a learning experience, albeit not a desirable one. I cited parts support for my very old lawn mower as an example. Power equipment, especially lawn mowers, is an industry in which any worthwhile company will stand behind its products, even one from 1989, because that develops loyalty and trust with consumers. I like knowing that a good dealer is willing to help me find, say, a mulching kit for something which is almost as old as I am.

When I buy a gem like you found or an old fixer upper I don't expect any help from the maker or anybody.
Part of the 'Zen' of the bicycle for me Is me getting into it's simplicity and making it as good as I can all by myself..

Sometimes posters have more than one address and name. One non bicycle forum I visit finally had a guy booted off when they found he/she was operating under 6 different names all of whom supported each others point of view/agendas. Roger
