Greetings:

I've recently been seeing more and more of a style of handlebars. They're similar to butterfly bars, but don't swoop back around and up like butterfly bars. Instead, the ends of the bars point back toward the rider. if you look down at them, they kind of look like a long, flat letter A. Make sense? I bet somebody on the forum has a set of these bars, and I hope I'm describing them well. I recently saw a Long Haul Trucker set up with them.

Basically, I'm looking to set up an old Rockhopper for bikepacking and commuting. I like to sit upright and these bars look like just the ticket.

Any help you could give me, like a name, pic or link, would be greatly appreciated.

Jeff Jones Loop Bars

If you decide you need to spend less and can forgo the 'loop' or 'H' part of the Jones models, Soma, Surly, Origin8 and Velo Orange have bars with a similar sweep, some with very minimal or no rise. Fewer hand positions on those, though, if that's important to you.

I'll run a search on the four brands you mentioned. I have a definite picture in my mind of the bars I'm looking for, so I bet one of those brands will be it. I really appreciate your time.

Yes, having several hand positions is important to me, as my hands go numb pretty easily. I looked into the Jeff Jones bars, and I like them, but WHEW! they 'aint cheap. I suspect most of the bars I like will be somewhat pricey, though, so I might as well pry open my wallet.

I hear you. I wanted one with a similar degree of sweep as the Mary but with less rise to use on a different bike, and I lucked out with an on-sale Civia model a few years back. But you could probably add a gadget or two to that Jones loop bar and still have room for changing hand positions, so I definitely see the appeal. Hmm, I better not look at those too hard.

I've ridden Jones' bars and some copies, and the former are definitely more comfortable. Fit and finish is excellent, too.
