Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A bend in drops on my bars

I have a set of Winwood Road Scholars which I think are now extinct. I like the top of the bars but hate the drops. There is a bend where I want to put my hands. Most of the new bars on the market have removed this bend. I was thinking that I could wrap gel strips around the area on each side of the bend and thereby remove it. The bottom of my bar would probably look thick but I can live with that.

there are alot of used bars on ebay for cheap. I just bought some that are 100g lighter that my stock bars for $9.82 shipped($100 new)
Personally i like the anatomic bend, it's easier for me to shift in the drops. Those in your pic are a little drastic though.
Someone w/more knowledge than me, can tell you which bars are round. I think it would be classic, but i'm no expert.

What is it about the top of the bars that you liked? Is it flat or oval? If you don't like the "ergo/anatomical" bend features on bars, there are plenty of bars without them.

Do you want new bars or just writing a statement about your current bars?

Two things I like about the top of the bars is that they are flat and they are 46CM. If possible I would like to wrap my current bars with something that could take out the bend. I almost never use the drops and it is because of the bend.

I have noticed that 46CM carbon ergo bars are not very common.

Are they really 46 cm center-to-center? You'd have more options if you can do 44 cm wide bars. Also, the width where you attach the levers may be more important, so you could possibly try a different size?

Get a natural curve bar instead of an anatomic.

Take a look at Salsa Handlebars. They carry 46cm with a relatively flat top and a nice compact bend without the annoying anatomical bend.

I might be able to do 44 cm but I have never tried them. I have been on these bars for six years. I love the tops but hate the drops. Yes, they were sold as 46 cm bars but I haven't measured them to be sure. I will go into a few stores and try the 44s and see how they feel.

Yes, the natural or compact bend is what I would like. I didn't know that the bend in mine was called an anatomic but it sucks.
