The world'd #1 brand is either Apple or Coke, depending upon what's being measured. No Bike brand is anywhere close.

I thought Giant was the largest, and most recognize name (globally). For bicycles that is.

Anywhere I roam
There's no fair way to answer that question, but some people might say Trek closely followed by Specialized, or the other way around. Personally, I think that Surly is a way better brand than both of those, and then there's probably people who think Surly sucks. But you might keep this in mind: no matter the bike, if it has multiple gears, it's usually speced with Shimano, SRAM, or Campagnolo, and those three companies do not play together.

Though if your meaning a manufacturer that uses the highest quality assurance measures, latest manufacturing procceses, components, most efficient after sales support etc. I really don't think there is one yet.

Googlefoo, engage!
Trek/ specialized/ giant lead the pack individually, but garbage bikes, in sum, have the greatest market share
"On a purely representative basis, the leading brand in the country is…”Other.” And it has been for years.
The bottom line is that in terms or retail representation, anyway, none of the top ten brands is anywhere near as big as those bottom 130 combined. You’d have to merge Trek and Giant to equal those little guys in aggregate."

Even though China may claim more bike riders in the earlier years of the cultural revolution, maybe even more than all other countries combined, it would be difficult to rule that out.

But because the Chinese are now having more money to spend because their ecomoney is thriving. The Flying Pigion Company is hurting. BTW as I understood it Flying Pigion Bicycle is a state owned company. Chinese who rode bicycles for years are moving up to mo-ped, scooters, motorcycles, and those who were riding mo-peds, scooters, and motorcycles. Now are driving cars. Trickle up economics.

Pacific, or some other maker of bikes for big box stores could be #1 in number of bikes sold. I suspect this is the case because they are sold to the masses, that quickly end up in the land fill or at the recycler.
As far as dollars in gross sales it could be one of the "name brand" manufacturers, since they sell higher cost bikes, and make adequate sales based on their marketing.
But my follow up question is, why does it matter? If you are looking for a bike, look for what works for you. If looking to invest in a cycling company, then check their financial reports for return on investment.
