World First Unstealable Bike!?
Saw this today:
'Unstealable bike' goes into production - CNN.com
Pretty interesting. I could see people taking a saw to that bar just to prove a point.

Anything can be stolen, that bike simply uses a locking mechanism and all locking mechanisms can be defeated.

If it can be unlocked, it can be stolen.

At least they're trying. I wish them the best.
What they should do is create a better class of human being.

That looks cute....
Single speed only?
So far I haven't been worried about theft enough to take that step, but it certainly would e worth exploring.
For a high end bike, however, it has often been pointed out that the bare components are worth more than the frame, and much less identifiable. It would make sense to sacrifice the frame for the components. But, it is less handy to ride away.

First issue: It's on CNN, so that means it's absolute bull****.
Second issue, I could steal this bike 2 different ways within 60 seconds.
1: cut down the tree
2: the downtube sections are held on with bolts, so you can just undo them.
It's clear these people know nothing about security engineering, other than the fact that if you make a bike that ugly nobody is going to want it...

I’m thinking as I watch how the woman attaches the lock, this is going to create more attempts to steal her bike. It looks like a flimsy system that can be broken in minutes and will be treated as such.

One target would be to cut and replace the seat post. Assuming nothing is hardened, one could probably hack through the seat post by hand in a minute or two. Or, cut it quickly with a good bolt cutter.
One would still be left with a bike with 3/4 of the frame. and locked at weird angles. But, once home, one would have some time to tinker on things, or just trash the frame.
It is downright scary how easily a locksmith can defeat almost any keyed lock, including making a new key from scratch.

I am glad at least people are trying to make bikes harder to steal! Crowd-funded projects are a great way for people to get their ideas to market. So far I have participated in two along the anti-theft category. Security bolts and clamps for the seatand seatpost and a keyless electronic U Lock. The Payback seat security and Skylock. Next thing I'm looking at is a GPS tracker...I love gadgets!

There was one discussed earlier... I think I had bookmarked it on the computer that crashed
I think this was it.

I think you have to have a cell plan for your bike.

It's only as good as the locking mechanism that secures it- and I'll bet that isn't so good.
Although, by making a bike that no one would want to steal....that may be a stroke of genius!

I think the infamous Bike in a Tree near Seattle is more unstealable... but then it's also unrideable!

It's a neat idea. As an aside: Why do all these kickstarter bike projects look like craptastic tarck bikes?

I had a baby poop brown Montgomery Wards ladies' 3-speed with a big old wire basket on the handle bars that I rode to class in LS. Totally undesirable but the perfect bike for the situation.

I dunno....with the great patina that might cause; and one purple rim and one orange rim on a pink bike, you could be starting a hipster on life of crime!
