Cycling or otherwise?
My favorite magazine ever is The Wire from the UK or perhaps Smithsonian.
As for cycling, I prefer VeloNews.

Condor Cycles - quite possibly the best bike shop in London
Don't run red lights, wear a helmet, use hand signals, get some cycle lights(front and rear) and, FFS, don't run red lights!

Euro cycling: the UK's "Cycling Plus". About $100 per year, and well worth the ridiculous price.
American and Retro cycling: "The Rivendell Reader". Three years for $35. A bargain.
Bike Racing (and Racing History and Culture): "Cycle Sport America" $50 a year.
"Cycle Sport America's" May issue has a large section devoted to Belgium. How does a tiny nation the size of a Texas ranch turn out so many great racing cyclists? The history and culture of the nation. Profiles of some of the great riders. The history of how the tough and noble people of Flanders have endured sharing a nation with French-dominated Wallonia. The best Belgian beers. How to make the perfect Belgian fried potato and clean a fresh mussel. The ONLY sports-orientated magazine in America whose editors assume its readers are both literate and intelligent.

I enjoy VeloNews myself. Roadie International is not that bad, and yes I still read Bicycling.

I stopped reading Bicycling after all those "Bike Town" articles... **BARF!!** if I ever read another inspirational bicycling story about fat people who start riding around the block for 2 months (until they get their first flat tire and dump the bike in their garage)... I'm really gonna puke.
I started reading "Cycling Weekly", the UK magazine... good racing coverage, nice reviews... so on and so forth.
I actually browsed through the lastest Bicycling Magazine today at the newstand and as soon as I saw the pictures of the bicyclists riding past the Central Park "GATES" I dry hurled a couple of times and put it back on the shelf.

Decline
but really I stopped buying mags. At least in the mtb world, they suck and are all bought by sponsors. Can't trust any of them, which to me, makes them pointless.
