It isn't about how much lube costs per ounce. It's what it costs per mile that matters.

Also factor the cost of the components it protects and lube should be able to pay for itself in reduced wear/replacement cost.

(this is intended as a thought piece, and shouldn't be construed as a plug for any specific lube)

I have no idea which one you mean.

Asking about hot dog stands in NYC is like asking about sunflowers in Kansas.

I started using the White Lighting Semi-dry last year. I love that stuff. It is silent, clean, wears well. I washed my bike (one of them) yesterday and the lube was easy to remove with soap and water (and a little brushing).

Ah! the LED just turned on

Yes, Walters on Palmer Ave. in Mamaroneck, (next town over) is still there. It'll probably still be there long after I'm gone. I get there one or twice a year. It's only 4 miles* from home, but a bit off my beaten track.

*4 miles in this area is like 20+ miles anywhere else.

Since this thread is entitled "my fav lube", and then you just state WD40, could you please show me where on the WD40 can or label it states that it is actually a lubricant? I know it is a decent water replacer and a somewhat good penetrant, and a pretty good degreaser, but just where does it state anything about lubing? Cleaning something may make the item seem to run better (due to cleaning off all the muck) but does not mean it is lubricated.

Now I know that just recently WD40 branched out into some spray lubes, but the original WD40 is not a lubricant, it is not sold as a lubricant.

I apply chain oil link-by-link... allowing the lube to saturate into rollers and around the pins. I shake the Semi-dry bottle from time-to-time while applying. The next day (if time allows) I light wipe any excess off the chain.

First... let me post that I originally bought this lube for a wall-hanger bike I kept in my basement office. I wanted the chain to look shiny and clean. But I also tried it on a bicycle I regularly ride and was very impressed with how clean and SILENT it was.

Cycling is my passion. But I enjoy wrenching on bikes for fun and relaxation. I can only have so many project bikes.... so keeping the 4 bikes in my herd clean and in great shape is a source of enjoyment for me.

All that said... if I am riding the bike I washed the other day and get caught be wet weather and dusty roads... I could wash it again this weekend. But as a rule.... I'd say lube and wash generally lasts about 300 miles for me.
