Is there a tactful way to tell a fellow rider that they need new nicks? (Riding Shorts)

I was heading to work this morning and came up behind another commuter. I guess he had no way of knowing that when the lycra of his nicks gets stretched across his butt it becomes quite see through.

I really didn't need that. I'd just had breakfast.

well you know how wearing your underwear underneath your shorts is a no-no? Well my friend was wearing his under his shorts.... and I was grateful that he was cuz he had a little hole in the butt, and it was white underneath the black. i'm glad I didn't have to see skin

Ummm. I just wore riding shorts for the first time today (normally I just wear normal shorts, but I finally got some primal wear stuff and am VERY happy)

Thing is I wore boxer shorts underneath. Supposed to wear nothing underneath ;??? isn't that kinda gross?


Someone want to clue me in???

Underwear has seams which chafe and rub against your skin. As Trollie says, "Ride nekkid." Or at least feel free to go without undies.

I do tandem rides with the blind (or used to) with the AYH in West Hartford, CT. At one of the rides a rider showed up in a pair of shorts that had worn out years ago. Good thing the stoker was blind, as it was not a pretty sight.

We did not say anything to him, we did not want to embearass him... It can be very hard to find captins for all the bikes. Turns out we did not have to. Every ride has an ice cream stop. And as he was walking into the ice cream shop a child yelled out "Look Mommy I can see that mans butt!" and pointed right at him. He finished the ride, but he never showed up for another ride.

Hmmmm....

When I first rode, I would wear underwear. Then I went without for a while, but it just seemed so unsanitary. Now, I ride with underwear, but my biggest concern is that the top of my underwear will peek through the top of my shorts, so everyone will see what color underwear I have on. I just don't think it's cool. I wish sometimes if my underwear was hanging out, that someone would discretely come up and tell me I'm in a compromising position and caution me so I can make some discrete adjustments.

Having said that, I will be getting online tomorrow and ordering several more pairs of cycling tights and shorts. I think I will start going without to see if it really does make a difference, since I'm starting to build on doing long hauls now.

Now for girls I suppose no underwear would be considerably worse then guys. Me, being a guy and only wearing boxer shorts anyway, just never though about it guess I will try next time as my boxers were kinda bunching. ;-)

Now a funny story:

My girlfriend wears proper cycling attire and sometimes covers it with other clothes depending on weather/where we are.


That said, the other day I was heading down the parkway and this guy and his gf were coming up on some low end bike store bikes (just a shot above dept. store bikes) and as she is coming up she tries to pull up her ultra low rise jeans, im like hmm and as she goes past my friend notices her pink thong is still sticking way out. How ditzy can you be to ride in ultra-low jeans with a thong on. Do some people have no common sense.

I've noticed some nasty chicks on the bike path doing that same thing- can't they feel the breeze hitting their cracks when their low ride jeans are slipping that low? I really think they think it's sexy or something.

Man I can't stand those pants! My little sister wears them exclusively - she has never worn anything but those tight, low rider jeans - she's never owned a normal pair of pants. And then those capri's!?

I don't know. It went out the door when the Brittney Spears of this world came out with their artificially enhanced, emaciated bodies. That's the ideal now, and for me, it looks gross.

I look at those Marilyn Monroe movies and wonder what happened to women's body images. She'd be considered fat in these days. And I don't think she'd be caught wearing low riders either.

Too bad about your sister. Maybe you can sneak into her room, steal her jeans and replace them with some good old 501s.

Well, guys do 'see' things differently than gals

Can't speak for all red blooded males, but I believe the trend/perspective for straight guys is:
Pretty gal + brief exposure of briefs = enjoy but don't stare.
Pretty gal + intentional exposure = distasteful and disappointing.
Almost pretty gal + accidental exposure = forgivable. No problem.
Almost pretty gal + intentional exposure = not cool.
Guy + accidental exposure = forgivable. Stamp out 'crack'.
Guy + intention exposure = repulsive. Probably the reaction they want.

Sexuality is a fact of life, no pun intended.
So when something somewhat uh, sexual, pops up, I believe it's good to enjoy it as an amusing reminder of our humanity.
It's only shameful when a person is shamelessly trolling.

First of all for those that have red hair and it is not a dye job it is very noticable when you have black shorts on. (The shorts are either pulled tight enough against the skin the hair is noticable or the hair simply pokes through the shorts.)

Now being a guy and looking at a good looking red haired woman its not all that bad.

How ever those with red hair, male or female may want to do something about it if you are going to wear black cycling shorts. My advice would be to shave it. I don't think you'd want to dye it, especially in that region of the body.

As far as certain types of clothing that women wear. Well being a red blooded american male the 2 styles of clothing that a woman wears that turn me on the most are the kind of tops that define a womans bust line as well as being snug enough to show the nipples. And the style of bottoms that show off the "camel toe" in the front and defines her back side in a flattering way as well.

I don't care what women say when they wear these styles of clothing. Because you know that when you do men are going to look. And you would not wear it if you didn't want the looks and stares. So ladies if you don't like the looks and stares don't wear such flattering clothing.

Not entirely true. For example, in the climate around here (hot for nine months, warm for the other three), it's probably a matter of practicality for women to wear what some might describe as "not very much". Not that there's anything wrong with having a glance - I do it myself quite often. However, one should at least try to be subtle about it, and if she doesn't want the attention, go and find something else to look at.

And THAT is why women often don't think that much of men... because it's all about what's on the outside and nothing about what's on the inside (to be cliche).

I was actually about to make a comment that would have taken us totally off the subject, but I'm not even going to go there tonight. I can debate with anyone over PM about the state of a woman's dress (or lack thereof) and the male attitude (and their resulting actions) via PMs.

Anywho, I get frustrated often with men- you wear something nice, and they make inappropriate comments, stare incessently without regards for our feelings, etc. There's absolutely no brain power involved when it comes to men behaving in such a manner. Then they blame their brain-deficient actions on us- "well, they shouldn't have worn it because they know how we'd respond." Why can't men learn how to curb their non-thinking, cro magnum, insulting, horny behavior and get over it!!?? We could be wearing ANYTHING that triggers men- I got more stares, honks, shout outs, etc. today than I could possibly remember, and I was wearing my cycling tights and the bikeforums jersey. WTF!!?? Why am I the guilty culprit if men decide that they're feeling horny when they are watching me instead of doing something productive, like unlearning their rude, despicable habits? I get REALLY tired of hearing that same old excuse- "you know you want it, or else you wouldn't have asked for it". Asked for what? Unwanted advances, aggressive unwanted sexual behavior, etc?

I am sure there are plenty of women who agree with me. I also believe there is a small segment of women who specifically dress to get the attention of men-women (or girls, in most cases) deliberately wearing clothing that they know will catch a man's attention. In this case, they have low self esteem and are only feeling validated when they receive this kind of attention from men. But for the rest of us, this is how magazines, television, etc. tell us to look- they give us the fashions, they dictate to us what looks good on us, and we wear it. We like the fashions, we want to put our best foot forward, and we want to look attractive. But looking attractive does not equal wanting sexual advances from some oversexed, can't-think-above-the-belt guy who categorizes women based on looks.

Ok, the original post was about cracks... so saying that, I refer back to it and ask that if anyone sees my crack or any other part of me peeping out, will you please let me know? I'm the one on the silver bike with the black tights and the bikeforums jersey, just in case. I really don't want to be some perverted guy's personal peep show, ok?
