please no threads with results in the title

if we start a thread about something in the TDF can we please leave results out of the thread title? i dont read threads about the TDF so it doesnt ruin the suspense when i get home to watch it. but if i see a thread like Lance owned that mountain today!!! it kind of gives it away.
thanks

I agree. Yesterday's time trial was nice to watch, but I wish I had not read the "posties" title first.

I understand where you're coming from, and I personally try to be sensitive to that issue, but in general I don't agree with the idea that real-life events should have "spoiler" protection.

It's like, if you taped the Super Bowl because you had to work when it was on, don't go into a sports bar on your way home from work. Maybe a cycling forum isn't the best place to visit if you're trying not to know what happened in a cycling event.

It's not the same as giving away the ending to a current movie or novel; those are fiction, designed as entertainment, and what happens in them can't be changed or controlled, and the people they happen to aren't real.

Just my opinion, but I think some things you just have to assume responsibility for yourself.

I agree with Rich. Perhaps the TDF posts could all be put in the TDF forum, or GD forum, and you could avoid that area until after watching the race, no? Perhaps you could just not read any posts at all until after viewing the race?
Just a thought. Myself, sometimes I can't wait to put up a post about something so good as the Posties winning or the like. Also, some people who can't watch the race, might want to be able to check in to the forum and get the results without having to wait until they get home or hear it on the news.

i dont completely disagree with you Rich. but i don't think its too difficult to leave a result out of a title. i read the forums thru-out the day for things other than the TDF, and it's easy to avoid TDF threads. it's not worth it to me to avoid the bike forums for the next 3 weeks just to not spoil the TDF, but if people could avoid specific info about results in a thread title i'd appreciate it and i think a lot of others would too.
not a huge thing to me, just askin a favor
o and Rich, where do you watch the TDF ? just at home? or do you have a tip on a nice bar i could visit?

I kinda see both points. I wondered why my thread about the TdF was moved to the road racing forum, but few of the others have been. I think all TdF posts should be there, since that's the title of the sub-forum. That way, it wouldn't spoil it for folks that still want to read the BF.....I think that's fair. Heck, maybe even while the TdF is happening, it should have it's own forum instead of a sub forum?!?!?!

I can respect that, but as a community forum it would be nice if we could agree on something as simple as not posting results in titles. A mutual respect issue if you wish. Think of it as if we are friends and we are asking nicely, if that helps. People work during the Superbowl?

Also, some people who can't watch the race, might want to be able to check in to the forum and get the results without having to wait until they get home or hear it on the news.
Or, just not post the results in the title. Or, do as Bikerdowg suggest, post them in the correct sub-forum.

Man you guys sound like elitist road bikers

regards,

ehenz

ehenz, I can see why posting in the correct sub-forum is a problem...it's too hard to find. I only found it by following the link to my moved post.

Maybe a STICKY post at the top of the general discussion boards, in red, with a link to the correct forum would help? I have my favorite places set to open to GD, and that would probably be the place most people think to post about the tour.

Maybe the best thing to do is make the title as generic as possible with no hints whatsoever- "Stage 6 Tour de France Results" for example when tomorrow's results come out.

None of that "Great news about the Posties" or something along those lines that gives things away. Just make it generic!

I can't be online all the time, but when I am, if I see titles that give it away, I will definitely change it to something really generic like what I suggested above. I don't get OLN either, but I want to sometimes listen to it on letour live, and until I get to listen to it, I may not want to know the results. I don't want my suspense spoiled.

For the future, I would rather not know the results of the individual or team time trials- I'm going to have someone taping them, and I really want to watch it and keep the suspense going- have pity on me! Pleeeeeeeeaze??!!

Spoilers suck. Especially when you live in a time zone that is 7.5hrs ahead of the race.
The stages start ~6pm local time and the half hour highlights package is also on at 6pm. So we are watching yesterdays highlights as the next stage is starting.
What this means is that we get to see coverage of a stage almost 16.5 hours after it has finished. It gets very confusing.

CHEERS.
