Suggestions for a new floor pump
Hello,
I have an old Nashbar pump that is next to worthless. I also have a Topeak Road Morph in my panniers, but I would like get a floor model to keep in the shed. Something with a twin head design that easily changes to work on a presta or schraeder valve stem without having to fumble with the innards and can handle high pressures.
It seems like most reviews I've read on Amazon have some type of negative comments about various models. I don't want to spend a fortune, but want to get one that works as advertised...

i got a specialized (in the$60 range)... so far very nice pump... will go up 100# +, and adapt to presta and schraeder without any changing of parts etc.

I've had the same Silca floor pump for the last 20 years. I replaced the check valve seals once, main piston seal once and the presta adapters seals ~ every 2 years. Parts have been easily available. The head is not so convenient for switching. If I switched a lot, I think I would buy a new head for it. The Silca has a STEEL barrel. The reason the Specialized and other pumps come with aluminum barrels is because it is low cost. If it lasts beyond the warranty period, they have succeeded. I don't think that I would exchange my Silca for any of them. Steel is 3 times harder than aluminum. It will wear that much better.

Sears has some great compressors for about $100.00. Great for the bikes and keeping your car tires up to snuff will make them last a whole lot longer. Enough longer to pay for the compressor. bk

I have some Avenir floor pump I picked up for $30 or $40. It supports both valve types with no fiddling and works well up to around 80-85 psi. I have no idea how well it would work trying to go to 100+ psi, though, so this may not be very helpful to you.

I found a Interdynamic 120 volt air compressor literally at the foot of my driveway one day when it was raining. I brought it inside and let it dry for three days.
Then I plugged it in, surprisingly enough, it worked and has been ever since. Approx. 3 years now.

One thing about floor pumps. They differ. There are certain pumps that take a lot of effort to get to the required pressure that you need. Having been a mountain biker for years- I have a couple of pumps that are completely adequate for a pressure of 100psi. Above that and it requires a heavier stronger lad using them to get that higher pressure. I found this out when I went road and required 140psi. I went to my LBS and asked them for a recomendation. They pointed me to a pump and I asked for a tyre to pump up. They gave me a track tubular tyre that required 200psi. I got to it with out straining too much so I bought the pump.
So like Bikes- Test before you buy. Pointless having a pump that will get to 120 psi if it takes a gorilla to get to it. Especially if you are small like me.

Joe Blow "MAX" only goes to about 100. Other Joe Blows seem good though. I'm happy with my Giant. It has a single head, but it will work with both valve types.

Luv my Serfas FP 200. Darn good pump.. But you only need one head. That head is a scientific marvel, because it is adaptable to both Presta and Schraeder valves.

That's what I have. It got great reviews on the REI website, so I went for it. It's my first floor pump, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I've had zero issues with it thus far so that's a good sign.

I have a old Nashbar pump I paid $30 for many years ago. Its a cheepie but its been perfect, well 'good'. The gauge shows 20 lbs when not in use now [something happened to it some three years ago, dunno what], but still seems to be accurate to fill with.
