I always wear a helmet so I can be a good role model for my little girl, I won't let her on her bike without her helmet wouldnt be fair if I didnt wear one. Plus I like the cool tan lines on my bald head kinda got a stripe thing going on then the lines from my sunglasses its a good look.

I don't commute anymore, I'm retired. But I always wore a helmet when I was riding to/from work. And I always wear one on daily rides, organized rides, or just a quick spin around the block after a repair or adjustment to the bike.

Yes. Unless I forget. Which is rare. But I rode for decades without a helmet...but my wife tells me I have responsibilities and people depending on me now, so...

I often don't wear a helmet. I am pre-kneepads, air bag generation, I grew up with skint knees, bleeding heads, busted shins and I am the better for it.

Helmet wearing = Media Puppet! Concentrate on bike skills...much more important than just wearing a Helmet! Just my 2 cents.

Often NOT - depends upon the weather, road surface & traffic
Snow pack/icy road - sure.
Warm sunny afternoon - nope.
Light traffic - no
Friday afternoon with crazy tourists and intoxicated country gentlemen - yep.
Late sunday morning with the going home from church crowd - YES !!

Yes, I always wear a helment on my commute. I like those cool, wavy curls in my hair when I get to work. I dont, however, wear one when I ride my Fuji cross towner around the neighborhood talking to people, looking for my kids or whatever.

I don't bicycle-commute anymore, but when I did, I always wore a helmet. I had several accidents over the years, all during my morning commute.

+1 - I've had no crashes racing, but several during my commute to/from work--idiotic mistakes that didn't involve motorists, but involved hitting gravel or some road imperfection at speed or catching a pedal in a turn. I've cracked a couple of helmets this way.

Pulling up to a stop, steel railing to our right, friend in front of me stops short bc a car started a turn. He could not get his feet out and leaned to the right. His head bounced of four horizontal steel bars on the way to the ground. That was the first day he wore a helmet, I had not started yet, but that convinced me. That was 20 years ago.

Christ, yes. Around here the commute traffic is about 50 percent soccer moms trying to manage three kids, a venti latte and the cell phone, and 50 percent big-deal businessmen shouting abuse at their secretaries. NOBODY watches the road.

Don't you know you can't do both at the same time? If you concentrate too much, your head shrinks (that's why they call it concentrate) and the helmet slips down and covers your face. Duh. Nobody knows nothing around here.
