Bike test shows what we're really like at work
If employers really want to know what prospective employees are like, should they forget psychometric testing and watch them ride a bike? Lucy Kellaway argues the bike test shows what we're really like at work. "The two-wheel test serves to weed out those who are not team players. All cyclists view cars, lorries and buses as natural enemies, but the cyclist who is hostile to his own kind, and who squeezes past others on the inside is suitable only for solitary working."

How you'd grade a group where I work: The cyclist cutting through traffic on his custom built bike would be considered a solitary worker, unfit to work for 'the company team' environment since he/she likes to make decisions on their own, so he/she would be let go the next time the company downsizes. Six months later he/she would be back, working as a consultant for the useless management who don't think highly of their employees and can't make a decision on their own, and they'd be making multiple-times the pay they did as an employee.
And they'd still be riding the same bicycle . . . .

Is this really news? I person's personality and condition of the heart will emerge in the natural course of their daily pursuits.
The same can be said of church choirs, basketball teams, and home construction. There are those who are driven to excellence, striving to the limits of their talents/capabilities. Others are consumate team players - encouraging others and jumping in to fill a need. Some are loners, others thrive in group settings. There are folks who crave attention and affirmation, and there are those who are satisfied accomplishing what they're set out to do with little fanfare.
Anyway, to the point, I agree with the premise. My riding follows my personality and particular bent...

I class them more as rocks when climbing a hill or waves when swimming at the beach. There can be danger, but you will be okay if you grant them their nature and proceed with awareness.
