Lighter Velocity B43 rim alternatives?

Hi,

I've heard good things about the performance and looks of Velocity B43 rims. However, I also hear they are heavy. I want to eventually put something comparable in looks and performance on a pure fix single speed but without the same weight. I don't plan to do any tricks or jumps or anything like that.

I don't know much about bicycle rims. Do lighter alternatives to Velocity B43 exist or are all thick rims going to be heavy? And is there a trade off of lightweight vs. strength?

Thanks.

Any deep section rim like the B43 is going to be on the heavy side -- more material, more weight. We also don't manufacture the B43 anymore, so finding them might be tough. There are also numerous variables in rim strength, so its not really possibly to generalize that a deeper section rim is always going to be stronger than a shallower rim profile.

Honestly, the B43 are overkill for nearly any rider. Why not go with the classic Deep V? It's not as deep, but still retains a similar profile at a pretty good weight savings.

Thanks. I still have a lot of time before I get my Pure Fix so maybe I have to catch up on what are the current offerings in wheel rims out there. As long as they are all generally going to be heavier in that style, it will make it easier to choose, though. The only reason I'm even contemplating new rims on a new bike is I heard from one review that the tire slid right off the rim and they attributed that to an issue with the stock Pure Fix rims. But maybe my concern is overwrought with poor information and fear.

Thanks is for the suggestion. Checking them out now.
