Back pain when I tilt my head forward. Can it be from cycling?

I woke up one morning and had this back pain. It is in the left shoulder blade. Feels close to the spinal column.

I am wondering what can cause it....but maybe the new mattress (which I have used in the last 2 months...so, why would the pain appear now?).

Or the fact that I have put my seat 1 or 2 inches higher.

The pain is most noticeable when I tilt my had forward.
It can also be from the pull ups that I do on a bar that is in our house. Maybe I hurt myself. My problem is that the pain is just not going away.

Any clues what it could be and how to treat it?

UPDATE: thread is slightly out of control and I also understand that there are many variables present. Got a doctor's appointment for Monday and will surely update this thread in a bit with the results.

The pain was from something not related to cycling. It came from the pull ups. After a short break from doing pull ups, things went back to normal.

It seems to me that there are too many variables for anyone on a bicycle forum to be able to answer you. If it persists, go see a doc . . . It may be the saddle adjustment you made, and it may not.

I recommend finding a food chiropractor.

My neck and back near the shoulder blades goes out of alignment now and again. On the neck, I can push on the vertebrae myself and feel then pop back into place. On the back, I see a chiropractor regularly and he does the same thing. It will never actually be cured but I do exercises regularly so that the muscles in the area help to maintain the proper alignment and this seems to help.

I recommend seeing a physical therapist who recently graduated from school.

As already posted, too many variables to guess if it is from riding. See a doctor.

There are too many possibilities to guess at. See a doctor ASAP.

Having had a spinal injury myself, the pain occurring when you tilt your head forward is worth noting to an MD. In my case, similar movement caused pain and an electrical sensation called Lhermitte's sign, which is a symptom of potentially serious spinal cord damage. That's probably not what you're experiencing, but in case it is, get it looked at immediately. If I had hesitated, I would probably have permanent nerve damage.

Dunno what body part or area a spade is.

Agree that you should consider seeing a healthcare practitioner.

Heck, I'm not ever sure what the OP means by "tilting my head forward." Is that raising the chin or lowering it? Not that it matters much -- we sure can't diagnose him over the Internet.

That seems like a BIG adjustment. Have you tried changing the saddle height in smaller increments?

Go to a doctor, chiropractor, and/or physiotherapist.
