I love my Diamondback 2013 Trace Sport that I bought for $360 with delivery charges and everything off nashbar.com and assembled it myself last month and a half. I originally had a Genesis v2100 off Walmart but I decided mountain bikes are not for me as I usually ride on the road and sometimes off road on gravel paths getting to school 8 miles away. It feels like a true hybrid as the rolling efficiency is far better than mountain bikes while not being too stiff as road bikes (and with the gravel paths in mind). My only complaint was that when I start sprinting, I end up bobbing up and down due to the front suspension... that was until I found and sniped a Suntour NRX with remote lockout for $76 including shipping. Installed it myself the whole day yesterday. Yet to test it out with a ride as my back starts aching after being bent down for an extended period due to a car accident two weeks ago. Still, it can be stiff for the road or bouncy off road with the flick of a switch.

Can you tell me the model of the pedals that you have? I've been looking for pedals that are both flat and spd but I don't like having one sided pedals where you have to find which side you're on when stepping on it.

You likely wouldn't feel the cleat at all when using regular shoes as the cleats are recessed into the pedal and rotate back and forth to allow entry when using clips.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
A little blast from the past... BRC Ricochet from the late 80's that I picked up yesterday. It does not appear to have seen any miles as there wasn't a brake mark on the rims and the tyres (Ritchey Cross 38's) were still fuzzy.
4130 chromoly frame and was very nice to see it had threaded mounts at the seat and chain stay bridges.

My hybrid, 2010 Trek 7.1 FX with some upgrades:
Cockpit.
Right shifter/brake lever upgraded for 9 speed, WTB ergo grips also.
Left, still to be upgraded.
Shimano Ultegra FC-6703 crank, Shimano Ultegra FD-6703 front derailleur (upgrade).
Rear wheelset completely re-built with SRAM X7 hub, DT-Swiss Competition spokes, Sta-Tru 622 x 23/700c wheel, Shimano Tiagra 9 speed cassette.
Rear derailleur is still original Shimano Acera, to be upgraded.
Updates pending:
Saddle
Pedals
Stem
Handlebar
Rear derailleur
Brake pads
Fork...

I tested out my new Continental Touring Plus tires today. After putting 2,800+ miles on the factory installed Kenda Kwests, I decided to swap the tires out. This bike typically only gets used in inclement weather conditions (rain and snow), so I didn't want to risk having a tire go down due to worn tires.
The tires performed very well both on and off road.

Nice to meet you too MIke. 7.1 model comes with a square taper BB so that had to go also, I replaced BB with Shimano 105 Hollowtech II to match crank, at first I was using the factory front derailleur Shimano M191 8 speed, but since I upgraded to 9 speed and chain width was thinner I changed front derailleur to Ultegra FD-6703 10 speed which gave me better shifting, in your case 2013 Trek 7.4 comes with 9 speed, so I don't think you need to upgrade derailleur.
