I am pleased with the Swing Shock for our road conditions, i.e. lots of potholes, strip-type speed bumps, and broken road surface, at little weight increase in the magnesium version. Also relieves some of the shocks to the neck. Downside is that it is squeaky (rubber parts). I willl purchase another when it wears out.

My MTB in semi-hybrid form. (well it has road going tyres on it) I'm in the process of changing it back to MTB. I've ordered some new bits from CRC so they'll be Santa's presents to me.

The well travelled 2010 Giant Cypress Anthracite. After 8000 km the only work required has been brake pads and two rear spokes (probably a bikerack problem).

I have not taken the bike with the Swing Shock on any trail paths, since it is a road bike - I use a mountain bike off-road. My opinion, however, is that the Swing Shock will be virtually useless off-road as it only has a 3-cm travel.

Bought this Cannondale H600 in 1993. The owner of the bike broke the frame in an accident and Cannondale sent over this frame fork which he didn't like because his bike is 18", this is 16". His bike is red, this is blue. His is a regular diamond frame, this is a Killer V frame. So wrong size, wrong color and wrong shape. He rejected it and got another bike from the shop. His loss is my gain. For the last 20 years, it has brought me to many places and with both front and rear panniers, trunk bag and handlebar bag, it is able to do fully loaded touring.

I'll be curious to hear how well those fenders work in heavy rains. when I've tried 'shorties' like that, my back and butt have gotten soaked (draw a tangent line off the rear tire that just touches the tip of the fender, and its smack into the back seat, thats the direction water will fly off the wheel at any sort of speed). Ditto, the front fender doesn't go low enough to keep water from the front tire out of the crank.

Yeah, and it's not just the tangent. Gravity will send water in an arc, so any fender that doesn't cover the area above the back edge of the rear tire will let water spray over the bike. I see it happen all the time.

I really don't like fenders, but this is very useful when wet to avoid those skunk marks on my back and these are easy to remove, plus I think they go well with the bike's geometry, for my likes.
Here was raining all month long and since Saturday when I mounted them we haven't had a drop of water. I'll keep you posted on how they work...

My Bike:
It's a somewhat tweaked Trek FX 7.2.
Did not like the triple at all. Useless where I live (highest point I can bike to is +16 meters) and did not like the chain rubbing and continuous noise from the drivetrain. I removed the largest and smallest chain rain, removed the FD and replaced it with a Hope bashguard and chain guide.
Now, it is very silent, shifts very smooth and easy to clean.
Furthermore it has a 12-23 cassette (CS-HG50), Fizik Antares saddle, Ergon grips and a back saving stem with a 25 degree angle. Running it currently with Vittoria Randonneur Reflex 700x28C tires.

Here is the verdict...
Today it rained, rear fender worked perfect, the front one not so much, exactly what you said about splashing the crank, me no like. Don't know whether to buy better ones or just modify this one.

I have been thru these posts close to 50 pages in each direction and while I have seen some Trek Hybrids outfitted with drops, I haven't seen bullhorns.
new biker, bought 2013 FX 7.4. Thought I needed roadie as winter winds increased, but flipped the stem, removed spacers, added bar ends, added pedals with clips and reduced tires from 700x32 to 700x28s. Loving it. Just ordered stem extension to get longer over the top.
But I do not like being on bar ends because I have no easy access to brakes (ok I'm more Marmaduke than simple Clyde). So with all this wisdom: would you recommend bullhorns with brakes on the ends or a drop like the CrossRip that has brakes in 2 places?
