2012 Jamis Coda Sport Femme or 2011 Jamis Coda
I decided to start a new thread instead of adding onto my old one. I tried the 2012 Jamis Coda Sport Femme this weekend and I liked it a lot. I ended up finding a local mom and shop in the next town and really hit it off with the owner. In fact, my current LBS is a bit intimidating and their service is spotty whereas I find this new place to be more comfortable and reasonable. I think I'm going to bring my other bikes to the new place to get serviced from now on. They do pick up/delivery and are literally about 5 minutes from my house.
However, they do not have a 2011 Jamis Coda Comp and from what I understand, the 2011 is a much better bike than the 2012 Jamis Coda Sport. I found a shop in NYC that has a 2011 Jamis Coda but the store is not convenient for me at all. I would have to drive into Manhattan and pay a small fortune to park, just to get the bike serviced there. I do believe that I need to get the bike serviced where I bought it because most bike shops do not like to work on bikes that they did not sell you. I also believe in being loyal to an LBS.
I want to form a relationship with my local LBS as it will only benefit me in the long run. I can live with the 2012 since I tested it and it fits me well but am I truly missing out if I let the 2011 go?
I know some of you answered me in my old thread but that was before I told you the LBS circumstance
Thanks in advance for your help.

To my understanding, the 2011 line up was:
Coda
Coda Sport
Coda Elite
The 2012 line up is:
Coda Sport
Coda Comp
Coda Elite
So the 2012 Coda Sport would compair to the 2011 Coda , the 2012 Comp would compair to the 2011 Coda Sport. So in 2012 terms, you'd have to compair the 2012 Coda Sport to the 2011 Coda, NOT the 2011 Coda Sport. The 2011 Coda Sport is a level above the 2012 Coda Sport, do you HAVE to have the "carbon bladed fork" and the slightly upgraded components to make YOU happy with your purchase?? If the answer is NO, then I'd save the bucks and get the 2012 Coda Sport and work with your local bike shop instead of fighting with the shop in NYC.
Any of them are "Good bicycles" and would do the jobs you want of them, it's really up to YOUR NEED and WANTS! Which ever you decide, ENJOY and RIDE! JMHO, YMMV.

Thanks for your response. You are right, part of me knows that buying locally is the way to go -- just less hassle. The other option is to purchase the 2012 Coda Comp ($200 more) from my local guy. Or, I can ask local LBS of they can order me a 2011 Comp - doubt they can but its worth a shot.

Good to know. Either way, I like the 2012 Coda Sport and the money I'll save over getting the Comp will go to raising the handlebars and some new accessories. Thanks again.

Happy to see that your joining the Coda ranks! I think that BJJoondo has given you excellent advice. Carbon forks aren't such a big loss. Besides, I hear that the carbon forks aren't all that they're cracked up to be, anyway...Hey! did I say that?
Anyway, all jokes aside!
I'm certain that you're going to be very happy with your new 2012 Coda Sport. Just make certain that you register it with both Jamis and the National Bicycle Registry. Don't forget to buy a New York Fahgettaboudit U-Lock and a helmet! Place all warranties, receipts, and pictures in a very private place, within your home.
Also, both print and write your name, along with your current phone number on a piece of paper. Slip this paper down the seat tube, after you remove the seat. That way, if it is stolen, when you go to reclaim it from wherever, all you have to say is, "My name and phone number is inside of the bike".
Happy Trails...
- Slim
PS.
Take a picture of your bike just in case it gets taken from your home, that will be helpful with home owners insurance. It will also bolster your claim when reclaiming it from wherever, if it gets stolen.

Just curious.....are you going to get the 2012 Coda Sport Femme version or the mens version? What color are you leaning towards?
I raised the handlebars on my 2011 Coda Femme this summer. Changed two things, bought a different stem with some angle to it, then added handlebars with a riser on it. I love the way the handebars feel now. I'm sitting more upright. Good luck with your bike purchase.
Here's a picture of the handlebar setup:

Ciao- I love what you did with your bike!! I am looking at the 2012 Coda Sport Femme. As mentioned previously, I found the drop bars to be too low for me so I definitely need to raise them. Thank you for posting your picture. That is exactly what I want to do with the handlebars. It's so great to see an example from people (including Bjoondo's pics) who have actually modified their Jamis Coda's. It's so nice to see that it can be done and still look/feel great! Thanks!
