Just bought 2010 Specialized Sirrus Sport

Hi all,

I finally purchased the hybrid that I was searching for since last year. It looks to be in great shape, no rust or anything. The girl I bought it from was in college and needed the money. She only rode it for 50 miles since the purchase. Enjoy the pics.

Couple of questions:

1) How do I find out the serial number of the bike
2) I tried searching Specialized site but it appears they only have a generic bike manual. How do I get an electronic copy of the original bike manual that came with the bike?
3) I know the bike has 8 speed but what is the lever on the opposite end? It is set to 1 in the picture and how do I work it?
4) The bike came with a Bontrager speed display, she had mentioned something about needing to get it programed. Is this true, how do I find out the model number of the computer?

Thanks

That bike is in great shape! The serial number should be stamped on the bottom bracket when you turn the bike upside down, near the crank. I have only received generic bike manuals with my bikes and may not be model specific. The little plastic levers are designed to change the front and rear chainrings.

#2, I don't think bikes come with specific owners manuals anymore, they all seem to be pretty generic these days.

#3, the bike actually has 24 speeds. The lever on the left changes the gears on the front, the lever on the right changes the gears on the back. Both levers should work the same way, so if it doesn't you might take it to a bike shop or have a friend who knows about bikes and have them make sure the front gears are working.

Congrats on your Bike ! You may want to search some YouTube videos, on proper bike shifting. Plus other videos on fitting your bike etc.. But nothing beats going to nice LBS and letting them fit you. & check all the components for proper adjustment. And a few lesson on braking, shifting, & they will be able to program your bike's speedometer.

Thank you. I've been trolling since last year and was following up on all of the thread topic in the forum and it came down to Trek FX or Specialized Sirrus.

I took it for a spin yesterday after cleaning it a little bit and it is super fast and light! Glad I bought this!

Congrats and enjoy. The right hand controls the rear brake and rear der... the feft the front. The thumb levers force the chain on to the physicaly larger gear, ( the "harder" gears on the front, easyer gears on the rear. ) The little lever releases/drops the chain on to the smaller gears... you'll figure it out in the first mile or 2, and it will become instictive after a few rides. ( similar to clipless pedals. ) ... and I "second" , taking the bike to a shop and have them do a once over/tune-up ... if you got it used, and it hasent had one in a while, you'll be surprised how much better everything will work. ( you might have to be with out it for a bit, given the time of year. )

1)Should be under the bottombracket. Flip the bike upside down, and look for a string of numbers and letters on the rounded part where the crank arms go into the frame.
4)Pop the computer out of its mount, the model should be listed on the underside. Manuals can be found here:

One thing to remember when getting familiar to bikes with multiple gears is to start flat, and pedal easy when shifting. Keep the chain on the middle gear in the front at first (2 on your dial) and then play around with the rear gears (your right shifter) to get an idea of how it works. After you get the rear gear figured out then move on to the front gear. Just two cautions - Avoid trying to shift on your power stroke when going uphill. You'll get the hang of shifting as your pedals are approaching vertical as opposed to horizontal when you have a lot of force on the gears. The other is to avoid riding cross-chained (ie, front gear on the inside and rear on the outside). As mentioned above you'll quickly get a feel for it - how fun!

Oh - don't crash into anything when you're busy watching the gears shifting while riding.... don't ask how I know...
