That bike looks trashed. I wouldn't ride a Carbon frame that looks like it fell out of a garbage truck let alone pay 800$ for the privelige.

"street look" to avoid getting stolen? If that's true, could be a good buy. But if it's "street look" because of street abuse, that's a whole different story. Basically, are those scratches or is that paint pretending to be scratches?

Look at the damage to the chainstay, this bike has been dumped more than once.

I dunno. I would think a carbon bike would be completely black under the paint unless the primer is white.

The seatpost looks to be along way out as well, possibly over the max, indicating that the bike was far too small for the previous rider/owner, and could have put excess stress on the seattube area.

I wouldn't buy it. Steel or aluminium paint is easy enough to fix. Carbon? You never know when it might fail given its general condition. I think its worth its parts for salvage and no more.

Wouldn't ride that thing if it was given to me; it's a mess, and one has absolutely no idea as to the integrity of the frame/forks. You simply can't tell, even with a 'live' examination. Give it a miss; the only way you could be sure would be to take to e.g. Parlee for a full examination; would cost you more than the thing is possibly worth.

The question I have is more on the gearing. How does he get 28 speeds? 2x14 (I haven't heard of a 14 speed cassette) or 4x7 (I haven't heard of a quad crank)? Or I guess it could be a 2x7 with a 2 speed hub.

When it comes to online bike sales descriptions, it is safe to assume that the following information posted is completely wrong:

size
wheel size
number of gears
model
year
parts
frame material
type of bike

It is best to just analyze the pics. Photoshop skills are handy in adjusting bad photos to read decals, see parts, etc

Some terms and their meanings in bicycle ads:

antique = Really ratty

rare = There are only 2 on my block and/or everyone else has thrown theirs away

vintage = I haven’t seen it in the stores recently

light weight = Doesn’t require a fork lift to move

racing bike = has those curly drop bars

I once read a CL ad that claimed the bike weighed less than 5 pounds... and the bike shown was not even a relatively light production bike.

I remember several products that allowed you to add a quad ring to a triple crankset. Most used a cassette cog. One was called a "quad tamer" or something like that - Im too lazy to search for it. This was when the lowest MTb gearing was 24/28 chainring with 28t cog. These products added 20t or 22t gears to it. Friction front shifting allowed for this

Not to mention the shifters look like they've been replaced cheaply and the seat is a Bontrager saddle.

I think it's worth the 1$ that this moron originally listed it for like so many others who think they're being clever by putting "1$" and then listing the real price in the ad.

I pulled up my magnifier feature and unless my eyes are failing?...this would be the first CF frame I ever saw that was welded together. LOL!

Also?...he states "700 & 28" Wheels" ? WTH?

and chalk me up as another who's never seen paint missing from CF and it's white underneath.

What I see is a trashed bike with a specialized steering head cap and a bontrager seat with not a dang part on it I'd wanna save. LOL!

and all for $800?

I got this off craigslist for $300...though I did just add the bar ends, exustar duel interface pedals and Toupe comp gel saddle...

My 2013 Model, Lightly used Specialized Crosstrail Disc...

and it looks brand new and well cared for.

That thing?...Looks like a crackhead ran out of rocks! LOL!

'Carbon composite' is a fair description;the seatstays are carbon w/Zerts,the rest is alloy.

But that bike has def been run through the ringer. When I see things like an empty light mount,it makes me wonder if it's stolen, but it's equally possible the guy's just clueless.

Looks like something that rode around in the dumpster for a few days then was patched together to sell or was stolen and damaged beyond recognition so he could sell. Either way run away as fast as possible.
