Hi from Chicago!
I'm so glad I've found this forum - I was directed here by a link in the <https://chicago_bike.livejournal.com">Chicago Biking</a> forum on Livejournal - the discussion about the Chicago Sun-Times letter to the editor complaining about cyclists.
Anyway, I'm from Chicago (as the thread title might indicate). I live on the north side, and work downtown as a network engineer for a large bank. I bike to work about once a week, although I'm working hard to try to slowly get that up to every day - I rode yesterday, and I plan to ride tomorrow.
In addition to my "commuting", I also enjoy recreational cycling along the lakefront here in the city - as long as it's at the right times to avoid all the pedestrians down by the beach I'm cycling for three reasons:
1) It's a helluva lot of fun
2) I actually get to and from work faster on my bike than I do on the L
3) I'm trying to lose weight before my wedding in May of next year
I also love improv, swing dancing, and my awesome Sheltie named Scout.

My welcoming you is predicated on whether you love west coast swing or east coast swing. Choose wisely.

hey there -
I'm new to Chicago, new to this forum - commute downtown on my bike and just happen to be a lindy hopper as well... you're in good company!
