Yo from Idaho
Hey everybody! Just started biking to work after I realized I only had a 4 mile commute. I picked up a pristine vintage ladies Free Spirit 10 speed for free, trued everything up, lubed everything, replaced one cable, and started riding. Now I've got another free bike, this one a men's Murray USA mountain bike that I'm turning into a budget single speed. Going to go cable free and run a friction brake hub on it to keep it bare bones. A bit of bio, I'm not new to working on and riding bikes, I used to (6 years and a few hundred beers ago) ride 20+ miles per day as a Mormon church missionary, and then I was a professional motorcycle technician for a time at a Yamaha stealership, before becoming a professional machinist/fabricator/toolmaker. I also spend a portion of my time repairing and restoring vintage and antique firearms, tinker occasionally with vintage motorcycles and boats, among other things. Some call me a jack-of-all-trades, but the truth is I'm just a regular guy with way too many hobbies and way too little time. I'll see if I can upload some pics of my old junk toy collection.

Here's the Free Spirit I've been riding for about 3 weeks:
and here's the current condition of the new Murray:
here's an old 1895 Stevens 12gauge double I had to remachine pretty much everything internally for the hammer/sear interface, but I left the patina and woodwork 100% original. Coolest part was a handwritten note inside the stock dated 1937, where a man instructed that he wanted the *** passed down to his grandson. I got it from a guy who purchased it at a yard sale, got it back to functioning condition, then hung it on my wall for a year before I got an offer I couldn't refuse for it.
this one is a Mossberg 151M, dated approximately 1946, a buddy's grandpa purchased it new, he traded it to me for a Spanish .32acp ******, and I cleaned all sorts of crud out of the action, plinked with it a few times and then traded it for a different .22 that my kids could hold up easier.

Oh wow. The forum hides words like g u n and p i s t o l? Let me guess, the site is hosted in the People's Republik of Commiefornia?

Don't worry, they are considering hiding Idaho as well. (...all in good fun, I actually grew up there.)
Nice job on the commute!

Well we Idahoans are trying to convince the Governor to secede from the Union, but don't have sufficient financial backing, (due to Obamacare helping us lose full-time status and the porta-potty economy) so instead we are just writing laws to counteract and undermine Federal control inside our borders.

Hmm. I wasn't aware of that and I'm a moderator.

Just ironic. We live in a country created by brave souls with g u n s to further freedoms, like free press and free speech, but apparently the word g u n is scary enough to require censorship. Almost funny. Almost.

Welcome to BF! Great test of the EWCN (Early Warning Censorship Network), too! I love it. You made me curious and I’ve found that although the words r i f l e, p i s t o l and g u n are auto-censored, the word shotgun isn’t. I guess us skeet and trap shooters are in the clear (or at least were until this post). All this makes me wonder if words like bike, trike, bicycle and recumbent are auto-censored in the various shooting sports forums.

Thanks for the welcome y'all! Hopefully I can get a bit more done on the Murray bike and start riding it before this week is over. Having a tough time stretching 26x1 3/8" tires over my rims though at the moment. I've got both in the middle of the rim but can't get the beads to seat. Going to add some soapy water here in a few minutes, maybe between that and a thumb workout I can make the miracle happen.
