2016 - Long Distance Cycling Goals
Got any long distance cycling goals for 2016?
Maybe something in the Randonneuring world? A 24-hour race? The Century-A-Month? A Metric CAM? The RAAM?
To refresh your memory ...
These were the 2015 goals:

These were my 2015 goals ...
A pair of surgeries in January 2015 took me out of the running for the first goal. But we did end up riding 3 metrics and 2 imperial centuries.
We haven't done Mt Wellington yet.
My biggest month was November with 544 km.
And I ended up with 3706 km, which works out to about 71 km/week, so that is an improvement on the last couple years.
At the moment we have one main goal ... ride a Metric CAM (at least one 100K each month).
Some of those metric centuries may be longer rides ... I'm hoping we'll get a few imperial centuries in there ... maybe even a 200K ... and just possibly a 300K ... but the base goal is at least one 100K each month.
I'm also tossing around a few secondary goals ...
-- maybe a climb up Mt Wellington. A person could cycle from sea level to the top of Mt Wellington (1271 metres) ... several cyclists do that each year. Some do it several times. From where we might park to the top of Mt Wellington and back would be about 40 km, so that's 1271 metres up in 20 km (average 6.35%, I think) ... and then, of course, a long decent back down again.
-- I'd like to do a 1000 km month at least once this year ... that might not happen until October or November, but I'll see what I can do.
-- I'd like to average 100 km/week over the whole year. The last two years, I've been averaging just a bit over 50 km a week. Some weeks have been really good, but there has also been a lot of time off the bicycle for one reason or another.

I didn't post in the goals thread last year but I was trying for a full SR and PBP this year, but missed out on my 600k. I want to do a full SR in 2016 and do a 1000K too. I might go for one of the 1200s running in N. America this year depending on how the season goes. I pulled a muscle in calf so I was riding minimally during July and August, so I only ended up with 5400km this year but that's more than double any amount of riding I've done in previous years. I would like to try to and ride more and faster in 2016.

I'm planning to try to travel more and ride, looking at possibly rides in Santa Rosa, CA; Brownsville, TX; Midland, TX, perhaps some others. But still in the planning stages.

My primary goal for this year is to complete the GRABAAWR in June; not to just finish, but to finish strong. Last year I did Biking Across Kansas and it was a beast. I just got started back to cycling and had never done a multi-day ride before.
The secondary goals are to have at least 1200 miles in before the multi-day and then to follow with a metric organized event each month afterwards.

In 2015 I finally reached my long time goal of riding 360kms, now I'll probably try doing a 415km race in 2016 - of course not to win, but to finish.

Mine is pretty humble. I've been biking a lot of years, and did a trans-am last year, but I've never done a century, so my goal this year is to ride my first century. Maybe even several.

Last year's goals:
1. Half century on my 50th birthday: Done
2. Metric Century mid summer: Done but November
3. Start commuting by March: Done but in December
5. Three day tour (about 150 miles): Not done
4. Century by December: Not done
A financial setback delayed the tour/ commuting bike purchase from January to November, thus postponing the tour and commuting. Ilio-tibial band syndrome postponed the metric century and century rides.
This year's goals:
1. Century in April
2. Increase cycle commuting from twice per week to three times per week.
3. Three day (about 150 mile) tour
4. Horrible Hundred in November.
5. Start training for a 200km brevet this year.

This year's goal: "just" a Super Randonneur series. After a couple borderline disastrous 200's last year, I want to "redeem" myself and start building toward PBP in 2019 - the year I turn 65 and retire. Got off to a good start with a cold and windy 112k pop on New Year's Day. Let's see if I can keep it going.

PS - I'd love to do both the Cascade 1200 and Rocky Mountain 1200 this year, but sweetie and me are planning to spend all of my vacation days on a trip to Yurp.

It appears I posted nothing for goals in 2015 or 2014. No SR, no K-Hound either year. 2015 saw my fewest total miles since ~ 2007 AND my fewest RUSA kms since my first rando year of 2010.
The goals I posted in 2013 (stay alive, have fun) I accomplished (along with an SR, but the secret goal of repeating K-Hound did not happen).
I did complete a "lifetime goal" in 2015: RUSA Mondial, but that had actually been an unstated goal for 2014. I re-did my Mondial goal to "get Mondial before North Carolina friends Lynn, Ian, Bob." I failed at getting there before any of them.
Anyhow, the RUSA Mondial cube is the best looking of all the RUSA awards (there is a photo of one on the RUSA website), so I now have the best-looking large paperweight one could ever want. (The Galaxy Award looks rather awkward, but I'll accept it if I ever get there.)
If / when I've ever actually stated / posted goals, they haven't happened. Therefore, I'm going back to: (1) stay alive, (2) have fun. That'll probably get me to my fourth R-12 (which got to R-41 before life in 2014 & 2015 interrupted two or three times); probably also get me to my fourth P-12; might get me an SR (if work days off fit the schedule(s)); might get me to two other things that I won't mention so as to not jinx them.

(Dan made fun of me for considering the "Carolina Spring 1200" with the comment "how much of an adventure could it be if you didn't leave your home state?" (He thinks I should commit to the Stampede.))

I'm going to continue with the CAM thing, and (to make it interesting) I'm going to try to incorporate a RUSA-approved populaire in as many of those as possible. Maybe I'll get an R-12 award out of it.
I'm also going to do as many brevets as I can, as long as I don't have to drive to the start point.
And I'm going to try to persuade two or three friends to join me for a fleche. This will involve a car or two, and probably a train.

Since I only started last year with this whole randonneuring-addiction, my goal is to push just a little bit more. I did complete the full SR series so I want to try to do that again this year, but on top I would like to ride my first 1000km brevet. Just typing this gives me the thrills ^^Next to this I just want to make fun out of my rides, not to much pressure. Oh, and on a sidenote, I'll also attempt to ride the full Tour of Flanders cyclo, that has always been a childhood dream.

Surgery a year ago made 2015 a "step back" year. Managed to do a couple centuries and 700 miles on an 8 day tour, but nothing to crow about. This year is the year. In the March/April time span, I want to do a 5 day jaunt of at least 600 miles. An another in May. State ride in June looking for extra mileage and a century a day. Triple bypass or Double triple in July and a two week 1500+ mile trek in September.

I'm kind of new to Randonneuring, having just completed my first 200K this last season.
My goal for 2016 is to do:
- 200K (Maybe even 2!)
- My first 300K
- Consider my first 400K
- Several centuries
- Try some local RUSA permanents (Never done any of those, either.)

Hmmn, do "Dallas to Brownsville" and "Dallas to Midland" count as traveling?

After a pretty successful biking year in 2015, my goal for this is mostly to have fun. More bar rides with the club, more date rides with the missus, maybe get around to doing the Lake Pepin 3-Speed Tour, definitely going to do RAGBRAI after missing it last year, possibly TOMRV, but I'm sure I'll work in a couple of brevets too.

My 2015 goals were:
I did 23 centuries last year, including at least one every calendar month, and I'm continuing with that (CAM number 41 done on Jan 9).
I had to use the overseas trip exception for my 100 km/wk minimum goal more often than I liked, due to a busier travel schedule (10,450 km on the bike but some 130,000 km of flying).
Having crashed in both November and December reminded me of just how important it is to stay uninjured for continuing CAM :-(
For the first time I completed a 400 brevet last year, but DNF'ed on the 600. I also completed a 300 km together with my son who was doing his first brevet ever and we did a coast-to-coast ride together (360+ km across Japan) in the insane August heat. Completing the 400 again this year will be a challenge because last year I only managed it by riding 26 hours without sleeping and I'm not usually very good at going without sleep. A 600 within the time limit is still a far goal, but maybe the new bike (Elephant National Forest Explorer) will help this year. Anyway, I will sign up for the full 200-300-400-600 km set again this year and give it my best effort.
- at least one 160+ km ride every month,
- at least 100 km every week (negotiable during overseas trips),
...both of which are only possible if I don't get injured or killed
- Do a few 3000+ m elevation gain rides (e.g. sea level-Mt Fuji 5th stage-sea level)
- Properly prepare for 400 km and 600 km brevets this year (DNF'ed last year)
- A multi-day trip would be nice

I'd love to do the Stampede, but definitely not this year. I'd like to do a 1200k too, and resurrect my goal of K-hound. Still having hip problems though, maybe I should see a doctor.

Made the 200k ride in Port Isabel, fun times, a bit of wind to contend with!

Apparently I didn't post to this thread last year,
but I planned for, & completed the CA triple crown.
Also tossed in the Terrible Two, but ended up short at 150 miles.
Anyway, pretty much the same plan this year,
hopefully w/ better planning for successful TT.
We're having more winter, so riding time is a bit less,
but overall more efficient on the bike so may not need as many training miles.

I've already hit 150 miles in a day this year, towing a trailer WHEW I hit 180 miles last year (just carrying moderate panniers), which was also just about enough to drive me into the ground.
But, maybe I can do 200 miles in a day this year.
I suppose I should work on the day-after too... which can be rough
The other thing is that I've been struggling with getting the speed up a bit, and there is a quite a bit of a mileage/speed trade-off, so maybe if I can do both, it will help.
It has been a while since I've done any long tours. I did get in a 1 1/2 day ride last year. I'm very much considering doing a few days along the John Wayne trail in Washington this year, if everything comes together for the ride.
