    Iditarod

First of all, it looks like they've got a new website: Iditarod Trail Invitational

Secondly, the race starts Sunday 1 March ... but the preparations are underway.

But just before the Iditarod, the Susitna 100 is held mid-February: Susitna100.com - 100 mile & 50k winter races on marked trails in remote frozen Alaska - Home

I've been fascinated by these two for years ... maybe, just maybe, one day I'll participate.

I grew up in Seward, the original starting point. Always wanted to run the race. Do people actually bike it as well?
Sustainable development is like teenage sex- everyone claims they're doing it, but most people aren't and those that are are doing it very badly

I've never ridden my bike in Alaska. Sounds interesting. Am planning a trip to Anchorage at some point, maybe do the 400 km brevet to Seward and back?

I think they're having a bit of difficulty with lack of snow.

It looked like it was going to be a mess but the course ended up being super fast (although slick with a lot of ice, most racers had studs) and the record was crushed by John Lackey with a time of 1 day 18 hours and 32 minutes for the "short" option!!
