Went training Saturday with two friends, rider A said he may not make it, as he has a stomach bug. Rider A turned up and said he was better, so the three of us did close to 50 miles. Never touched rider A, but did pace right on his back wheel, ride next to him etc. Go figure, Sunday afternoon I go down with a bad stomach bug.

Now trying to figure out, does this stuff spread by air, or did I get it somewhere else?

Hi, if I don't get anything else out of having a power meter on my track bike, I've learned a valuable lesson about speed versus perceived effort versus real effort (watts). I figured out that drafting during intervals at speeds much higher than I can achieve solo, result in less training benefit (NP, avg power, TSS, etc) than doing intervals solo at a lower speed with a similar perceived effort. Further proof, besides the data, my legs hurt a lot today.

One of my teammate, Kevin P. seems to get sick a lot. He is very careful about contact with people and his greeting is to touch elbows.

At a track session, he was riding behind a guy who is a heavy sweater. A sweat droplet hit his lips. He told me he kept saying over and over to himself, do not lick your lips do not lick your lips.

It works the other way around for me. Try and sit on the wheel of someone who is stronger, then hang in trying not to get dropped. I push myself way beyond what I can riding solo.

I've got three bikes, three wheelsets and lots of gear stuffed into my Prius for the drive over to Madera tomorrow for the stage race. Only 8 have signed up for the WM 35+ field, which means we'll likely be combined with the 4's for the crit. None of us like that very much, but welcome to women's racing. Yvonne, one of my teammates, stands to do really well on GC, and my other teammie, Heidi, can place, too. Me, no way. I'm only about 85 to 90% of where I was two weeks ago. I cannot believe how much that illness took out of me. A messed up training schedule didn't help, either. I'm not worried about it, I'll do what I can, I'll dig as deep as I can, and I will enjoy it more than I ever have.

Recovery today, TT bike. Easy stuff. Intervals two days ago weren't so easy, but fortitude prevailed. Hey, I've learned I have that fortitude stuff!

Been trying to add a bit of duration and intensity on my walks every time out. Passed up the muscle relaxer and pain pill last night and woke up feeling less sparky. Did a brisk two miles today and am feeling it a bit. Be glad to get the staples out in a week so I can start stretching again. Tonight I'll aquiesse and open the childproof caps.

Track session at VSC last night: 80 lap warmup followed by 6 standing starts. Then I got to ride behind the motor for 16 laps while the women (including my wife) rode team pursuit behind me. It was slightly humiliating but fitting and felt good after the starts.

Then MEA and I did team pursuit with Roger on the motor where he did two laps and we did one lap.

Final drill was a pace line behind the motor and Roger set the order. The goal was to ride in formation and you get one lap behind the motor. However, when it was your turn, you had to beat the motor to the pursuit line (1/2 lap line) which means pulling out into the wind out of turn four and hitting the gas. That was the end of the session. Most of us were in aerobars that makes that a little harder to punch in a slug of power.

Here in CO, the first race of the season, the Frostbite TT, is tomorrow. After suffering through one storm after another, the weather has finally turned for the better; Saturday will be the first time outside on a bike in a few weeks for most all of us...

I'll be Eddie Merckxing it. I'll get smoked by people I'd rather not get smoked by. But I will do my best to adhere to Ex's words.

After yesterdays 6 standing starts, my legs were slightly sore. I may need to get AZT's former hot 20 something tri coach to stop by and check my level of pain. I think it was 85 on my ride today with Santa Ana winds blowing.

Dropped her for R'Ex. Maybe fed her too many bon bons and red meat. Or I need to work on word order and punctuation.

Didn't get the hour in yesterday, 2 miles and done. Doing another attempt today. The staples are keeping me from stretching my back (docs orders) so I am tight back there (no doubt the incision os impacting as well) and at some point I hit a wall.

Trying not to look at race results from events I'm missing.
