My goal is to transform my 24spd (3x8) into an 8spd (1x8) + RaceFace Bash Ring..

I bought a BlackSpire Mono Veloce chainring for my single ring.

The current crankset that I have is the stock Truvativ X-Forge.

Now, my confusion is the lining up of the holes for the ring, bahguard and crankarm. Um, they dont match! The BlackSpire ring and RaceFace bash guard have matching holes but I dont know how they will attach to my current crank arm.

I wont be keeping any of my current rings so how is the crank arm going to attach to the new ring and the new bash guard???

Simple answer it won't. The bolt circle holes have to match. What you could do is Dremel the teeth off the big ring into a bash guard as you save for a properly matched crankset

Yeah, after staring at it for hours yesterday I realized that it wont work. So what exactly does BCD mean? I know of the different sizes and it looks like mine is 104.

I think I need to get a new BB and crankset if I want this single ring setup to work. Apparantly square-tapered BB's and my style rings are outdated.

The two parts that I already have are the BlackSpire Mono Veloce ring and the RaceFace Bash Guard.

Before I get a new crankset and BB I want to make sure that all four parts will work together. The crankset is going to be the FSA X-Drive and the BB is gong to be the RaceFace SRX.. Both are ISIS splined which Im assuming is the only thing that I need to match up?

Last question...does it matter what size ring bolts I get? Since Ill have just the one ring and the bash guard, will 9mm bolts be long enough?

Something like this:

Standard sized bolts should work. Try asking in the mechanics forum, might get more hits.
