I am worried about wearing my UST tires on road. A pair of UST tires cost about $100, and I think in the long run getting a cheap wheelset and putting slicks on them will save a lot.

There is quite a lot of wheelsets in $90-$150 range, but I don't know which one to get. I also want them to be light since it's gonna be for road use only.

I also think about having 700c rims built with disc hubs. This is probably going to cost more but it may be more efficient as the diameter is larger than 26".

What do you guys think, any suggestions?

I can't give specific advice but I'd recomend that you also post this in the touring forum. I know some of them ride on 700 cc wheels with disc hubs. Why do you want disc hubs though? Touring riders use them because they can't predict the weather for multi-day trips and get stuck in the rain and their bikes are loaded up with lots of extra weight. I don't know if these would apply to your situation so you might want to save some cash or spend it on something else for your bike.

Well, because I have disc brakes already.

This is going to be my second wheelset. My plan is to swap only wheels depending on what I do. For road training I'll install the ones with slicks, for trails I'll install the ones with knobbies. I thought this will make things much easier, and saves time and money as well.

ah, makes more sense now, obviously you wouldn't want to remove your disc brakes every time and then install "normal brakes" Didn't mean to sound snide with my question, I was just confused why you wanted them, probably due to my utter lack of sleep. I'd still recomend you ask in the touring forum as well.

I posted my question about 700c's to the touring forum.

About the 26" disc wheelsets though, what would be good choice? For example there are many wheelsets with Sun Rhyno Lite rims. How are these rims? In the pictures, they seem to be a little wide for 1.0" slick tires?

I've got those rhynos with xt hubs and I think they are great. However they are really durable so they are pretty heavy as well. I don't think you would want those for riding on the road, though I suppose they could improve you strength. Also I think you are correct in believing you would have trouble getting a 1 inch slick on those, they are pretty wide Sun makes some xc rims that I think got decent reviews, maybe check those out.

I'd run a 1.5 to be safe, but you won't fint a stronger rim that cheap
