Dumb n00b question about brake upgrades.

I've recently acquired a 2005 Tassajara. What parts (besides the calipers and discs) would I need to upgrade from the stock v-brakes to Avid BB7 brakes? TIA!

From the pic on their site, the fork is disc ready, and its a manitou so you wouldn't need a special adapter for the calipers. But the hubs are not disc ready so you would either need a) new hubs, which would require rebuilding your wheels or b) buying a new disc compatible wheel set.

So the brake cables are cross-compatible?

edit: backwards-compatible != cross-compatible

No they'll be too short. You'll need new cables and housing. You can do it with generic stuff. (Preferably at minimum Teflon coated cables with Teflon lined housing available at a slight premium at a Local Bike Shop) Or you can use these https://www.drycables.com/html/about_dry_cables.html I run their predecessor (New Old Stock Gore Ride-On cables) with my BB7's. It's almost like having hydraulics.
