I have a trek y-22 which I purchased used from ebay. It had quite mismatched parts, and was not in great condition, so I've been continually renovating it. Right now my point of concern is the front derailleur. While the current rear derailleur is sram ESP 9.0, the front is a shimano deore LX; all the shifters are sram. Should the front derailleur be sram as well, because of the 1:1 actuation ratio? Or does this rule only apply to the rear. If the rule does apply, are there sram front derailleurs that feature a top swing design and a clamp size of 34.9? What are my options?

As far as I'm aware, all modern front derailleurs use a 1:1 cable pull ratio. SRAM only makes one current front derailleur design (although it's available in a couple models), a high-mount top/bottom pull. Firstly, if your front derailleur works, don't worry about changing it. Secondly, if you do want a new one, you may not be able to use a high-mount front derailleur on your bike at all, so check to see if it'll fit before buying one.

I know its not what your asking, but consider going 1x9. Be rid of the front derailleur all together. On those Y-bikes i assume the front derailleur is actually mounted on the rear triangle, so things might be a lot less complicated if you just omit it.

Sram wasn't making front derailleurs when the y-22 was in fashion. It's likely that the LX front is stock and the front grip shifter was designed to be used with it. What year is the bike?

What do you mean mismatched? Things are matched up quite well since all front derailleurs work on the same cable pull actuation ratio. SRAM front shifters work just fine with EVERY front derailleur.

Now hopefully, you have a grip shift on the left so you can take advantage of the "microclicks" that allow you to fine tune out chain rub on the fly.

I have gripshift shifters, old xt front der. and sachs new success rear der. Works great!
