upgrading trek 3900 '06

I need some advice, some friends said is not worth upgrading it (new wheelset, disc brakes and fork); they said the aluminum frame on this bike is too weak and not worth the money, This bike is used in cross country only.

They're right about it not being worthwhile to upgrade, but not for the reason they stated. The frame is OK, however, the fact that the price of the upgrades is worth more than you paid for the bike should tell you something.

Alot of people upgrade the bikes they have with really high end parts then swap frames later after you have all the parts. you get to ride a kick ass bike in the meantime.
