All mountain fork queries
I'm looking to finish off my Azonic DS-1 build (built to be good and quick but pretty strong) and this means replacing the my rather knackered manitou black.
Budget is an issue (£300 would be an ideal top, I know this isn't loads!) but i've got some hope pro-2s, so 20mm or qr would be fine. I've considered revelations, pikes etc, but I quite like the simplicity of the 4x, - my bother is about it not being as potentially plush and responsive as the other two. That's basically quite a long-winded way of asking about the 4x's suitability for more pure xc riding as I don't want to buy a great fork for the part of my riding that is harder and more fr, but one which is not so suitable for big 'ol xc slogs across the pretty tame country of southern England!
Cheers for any ideas about this...feedback from owners would be especially awesome.

Singletrac magazine (issue 34) did a good review of all mountain forks. I believe that a marzocchi fork came out as the winner. check out the review. Not only for the models that are tested, also for some features and how they function. you may find something interesting and some other features that you may not need.
I personally find marzocchi all mountain series to be very reliable and plush.
For cheaper price range, the Rock Shox toras are hard to beat. I have a marzocchi exr Pro from a few years ago, a marzocchi all mountain 2007 (not installed yet), a Rock Shox tora 318....
I like the toras a lot. specially with all the features and almost zero flex. its a bit heavy but, I dont care....
good luck.
