Well I think I am pushing my old 2002 fork too hard. It has this weird feel to it and I am hoping someone has some experience. The symtoms are as follows
1 - Lift front end sometimes just doesn't lift. This is not a rider error it just seems like my rebound is fubar (I preload the fork for wheelie drops and manuals etc...)
2 - Other times when I do get the front end up it thuds. This is totally new for me as the hsvc is supposed to stop that. It feels more like my jrT then a good z1
An addon point to 1 and 2...other times it is fine. The rebound and compression feel fine. I hate inconsistency in my bike.
3 - Flex has increased...I can't see any cracks (2002 was KNOWN for bad forks all around from marz) but doing the wheel in between the legs test I can no touch the wheel on the lower. This may be normal for most forks but this fork I could not do it to before the past week or so...
4 - during high speed bumps my fork just doesn't seem to be reacting. In the same instant where I used to always have extra travel to preload and manual through rough stuff I can't get the front up at all. It just feels dead.
So, in seeing the symtoms I now believe my fork is dying (seeing it written sure puts it in perspective) but I am wondering if anyone has any experience and can offer suggestions? I have emailed marz, not looking for a warranty but trying to see if they still offer the tradeins on the 2002 models. I hope they get back to me.
cheers

Marzocchi is pretty good about it. I cracked a crown on a Z-5 awhile back and they replaced the crown at cost. They offered to replace the fork, but the fork is fine, so they upgraded the crown.

I was thinking of this again just now, for comparisons sake an 04 Marathon SL is about 550 USD and from Norco is a mind shattering 1300 CDN!!!! Screw you Norco.
I got a 'good' deal on my 03 MX Pro ETA as an old stock clear out, 450 cdn down from 750 retail, however my 'good' deal roughly equals the US retail price.

Ok, I got all excited because MArzocchi has this tradein. I can tradein my 2002 z1 fr for a 2004 z1 fr for 50% of cost. Ths is a great deal, would have cost me 300cdn to do. Props to marzocchi for recognizing the problem and dealing with it.
Bring in the all knowing Norco. They change the rules as usual. They only allow a tradein to dj1 or dj 2 (which is a signifigant downgrade as it increases weight AND removes the damping) and it costs 260 cdn. Norco once again can kiss my ass. Thank god I have friends in the states. I will bypass norco as much as possible by buying outside canada (norco controls most of the distribution in canada). Norco doesn't deserve any of my money. (normally this wouldn't bug me seeing as I did abuse the fork but marzocchi realizes the 2002 line of forks suck and is taking trades on them themselves, norco is breaking the rules)...
For me this rules out ever buying a norco even. Oh well.
