2006 Gary Fisher X-Caliber What is it worth Today?

I am a Weekend warrior Recreational rider looking to upgrade but low on liquid assets and a buddy of mine has a stock 2006 Gary Fisher X-Caliber he hasn't ridden in a few years. It has been sitting in his garage gathering dust so he let me borrow it hoping to get me to buy it from him. It rides great for needing a derailer tune up and a new chain which he has a new chain that he never got around to putting on. I think I am going make him an offer. The problem is Neither of us know what it is worth now. It has some scratches and nicks but I am going to put more on it on the trails so that doesn't bother me. I just want to get a good deal and my buddy to recieve a fair price.
Help if you can.

Check completed listings on ebay for the same or similar bikes.

Watching ebay is a good recommendation, just be sure you track the sale to the absolute end of the auction. Many times the key bids come in at the very end of the auction. I'd guess that bike would sell for around $400 to $500 if it's in really good condition.

You can search recently completed sales on ebay in addition to putting any current auctions in your watch list.

Also, it's never a good deal if it doesn't fit you, so evaluate the fit. Feel scrunched up when you reach for the bars, or Superman'ed out there too far? Need to jack the post way up, or slam it down until just 2-3 inches show?

Since it has an air-sprung fork with both positive and negative springs, also make sure it's holding air on both chambers. Those cranks are also prone to fold-over on the middle chainring, so sight down on it while spinning it backwards to check for warps or bent teeth.
