Specialized P3 For XC?

The new guy at work offered to sell me his used 2001 P3 frame that he has lying around, he got it off a friend a couple years ago, intending to build it up, but never did. I was thinking of swapping the parts off my trek onto the P3... Thing is 90% of what I do is XC so I'm a little reserved about it because, from what I know the P3 wasn't really designed for XC... Is the Geometry of the P3 frame acceptable for XC use?
I always drooled over the Flat black P3's...

Marzocchi MX Comp ETA fork
Rhynolites w/XT hubs
Bontrager Headset and crowbar bars
Avid BB7's
Thomson Elite Post
Stock Shimano cranks from 2003 Trek 4500(not sure which one)

Would this be a decent XC setup, or should I just keep everything on my 2003 Trek 4500 frame?

The geometry of a P3 is probably not what you want for XC. They are smaller and more "flickable" for jumps.

it would work, but I would do it. If you can be comfortable enough to put the power to the dirt for 20 miles, then rock it. If not, don't bother. Really don't bother if you have no intention of urban riding or dirt jumping.

I've had 2 P3's. The first one I broke at the headtube because of frequent urban riding, but when I got the new frame I only rode it 3 times, it's good for novelty, and if you're going to put it to it's intended use. Definitely NOT for XC riding, 10 minutes and you'll seriously be hurting.

If your that serious about investing in a new frame, then buy a frame built specifically for XC use, the P3 is far from an XC bike, in fact is probably a complete opposite, spend your money on an XC frame if thats all your going to be doing, or, even better, save the money and hold onto the TREK...

I had a 2000 model and used if for XC riding. And YES I did suffer! Sure you can do it, but it's not comfortable. I did it because I didn't have a XC bike at the time and used it. Granted I would jump or launch off of anything that had a lip. Rode it with reckless abandon, but it was never a comfortable ride.

I went XC-ing one time with my Sasquatch, 15 mins in I was beat. I imagine the p3 will will be similar.

My cousin uses it for xc, however he has short legs so the bike actually fits.

I say... GO FOR IT! It's fun taking apart bikes and putting them back together!
Try it out, if you don't like it, switch it back. I'd do it, but then again, I also took apart my Bmx bike and 2 Gt snow racers and made a Bmx snow bike. lol. Just have fun!
