How much is too much?

I love bike riding. I want to ride every hard every day. I know its not safe, your body needs time to recover, your muscles need to grow and your ligaments/tendons need to rest. Personally I do not ride for exercise, I ride for enjoyment but what I enjoy is high intensity riding. I am 23, 6.1ft 155lbs of raw muscle.
I know muscles typically take 2 days to recover but if I wear to go off that standard I would only get to ride 2-3 times a week.

SO.... how much is too much?

Well if you hurt yourself by pushing to hard you won't even get in the 2-3 times a week. Your body tells you what it can take and what it can't just listen to it.

You can ride every day. Many of us do. Just listen to your body - If you start hurting, take a day off here and there. There is no real black and white standard. Many over-think this.

I'm going to be that guy
*too

Yeah take it from somebody who did the same thing... You'll hurt yourself. I've started swimming or going to the gym to work on my core on my days off.

I ride every day commuting and long rides in the weekends. I find on the road up to 400km a week is fine. More and I need a few days off now and then. Your body will tell you when its not happy. Its a great idea to listen or you won't ride at all.

Its not that you'll physically hurt yourself, but when you combine a lot of riding with the stress of a job, school, relationship , etc. -- it can lead to an over-stress condition

solution -- 30 mile rides during the week (or quick twilight crit races, that sort of thing is good) , plus a long ride or race on the weekends

Yes, the pro's ride more, - but they typically have a spouse who understands that if they arent on the bike, they will be on the couch or in bed for the most part

The flip side is -- your 23 years old --- there's a very real difference between what you can get away with at 23 vs 33 or 43 for most people --- so as long as your not risking burnout, keep at it, and if you feel trashed any particular day, just stay in
