New to Biking

Hey everyone,

My name is Khoa, and I'm starting to get into mountain biking. I've had a couple of "mountain" bikes before, but i don't think they are good for serious riding. What bikes do you recommend for a 3-4 hundred dollar budget? I'm 5'11, what size bike will be good for me?

Thanks,
Khoa

Well you should start looking at the "around" $500 MTB thread at the top of the page for some ideas. What do your local shops carry?

I've only looked at REI so far. Seems like they have bikes for around $500. As for brands I wasn't paying attention. this was before I sold my bike(motorcycle), so i didn't pay that much attention to it. but now, I will.

Look through the thread (yes there's a bunch of garbage in there) if you go to the last couple of pages one of the guys actually made a spreadsheet looking thing what highlights the good bad and the ugly, If I can find the right page I'll post a link. Also you need to do some leg work because our recommendations don't mean squat if you can't get one

Edit: This page has the chart thingy https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...&page=14&pp=30
