A little help for my friend :) --- (Wichita)
Hi there.
First of all, sorry for the bad grammar. English is not my mother language.
I have a friend who is going to live in Wichita for about 4 years. I don't know exactly where he is going to live (he doesn't have the address yet), but he asked me to search for a bike to him (I know considerably about it), but I don't know anything about the city, the LBS' etc.
He will be using this bike to daily commute, supermarket, grocery and all those sort of things.
In an overall search for this, I found that (probably)
- Lee's bike shop (trek stuff)
- X-change (a lot of brands, but no catalog )
are the best stores around. I don't know the price of the bikes there and I don't know which bike would be better (single speed? or maybe the city has very steep streets and something geared would fit better...)
I have found nice cheap bikes on bikesdirect or nashbar. Both have a nice selection of cross/commuting bikes.
If you could help me with models, prices, tips in general...
thanks in advance,
Marcelo.

First - there are no hills in Wichita. You have to ride the overpasses to practice climbing, or head out of town. I have not lived in Wichita for some years, but Doc at the Bicycle Pedlar may be of some help. There also used to be a pretty active riding community there that your friend can hook up with.

I don't think he is gonna group with another cyclists to ride around... It's not his profile. He just wants to use the bike as his main transport option to work, restaurants etc.
As soon as he gives me his address there, I'll look for the nearest bike store, but I'll tell him about this Bicycle Pedaler (Didn`t find Pedlar in gMaps).
regards,
