Second place is not good enough!

Sure, we represent quality over quantity. But a certain other website list the following stats:

Threads: 454,579
Posts: 3,855,371
Members: 125,898
("Active members" is conspicuous in its absence)

Our stats:
Threads: 300,429
Posts: 4,806,637
Members: 87,632
Active Members: 16,480

We've got more posts in less threads, presumably because our members stick around. Also, Joe did a purge a while back, and we lost a lot of members that haven't signed in for a while. But being second should not be "Good enough"! So if anyone out there has cycling friends, family, even foes, that are not members, feel free to introduce them to the greatest cycling community on the internet.

Also, I think, our members interact more with each other, rather than starting a lot of vanity threads that other members aren't all that interested in. And a hell of a lot of those posts are one- or two-word snappy responses in Foo.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Very, very, wishful thinking. Hopefully the paying sponsors buy it (lotsa fluff like P&R and the Foo geeks).

Reality check, as of this posting:

I can't find any Clydesdale forums on the other sites so I haven't joined any of them yet.

What, exactly, is wishful thinking about our stats? The certainly are better than the two examples you've provided.

Not to mention the more qualitative differences between the sites. I'm sure Roadbikereview and Mountainbike review are very interesting, but I can't think of any other place one can go to get all that plus all the other forms of bikeyness out there. Bike Forums tries to provide a home for all.

All I can say is that when the server crashed for a few days several months ago, I shuddered at the idea of losing Bike Forums and possibly needing to join a different cycling forum. There's a lot of people on here who I'd miss not staying in contact with...

While it makes me happy to hear that, and be a part of the community here, it certainly is nice to have a vacation. The three days I'll be spending at Interbike will be ridiculously long.

Right on sister Donna! (I'm in a 60s phase right now)

I've visited the other forums, and they don't have enough diversity to keep me entertained for very long.

I am active in 2 cycling forums. I am listed in almost every one out there. At least my bookmarks tell me I am. Some I have not visited in years. BF and DR are the ones I choose to be part of.

I never considered the commercial aspect of all this. Interesting. I can only think of the one positive of sitting in the #2 spot and Avis cashed in on that idea years ago. I may not contribute much to the cycling end of this forum ( I get my fill being paid to do it), but I do carry my weight as an "active" member. That's for sure.

Some troubling aspects have popped up. And I am not sure how I will deal with them. But rest assured, you have my support, whether I choose to stay active or not. I'll always come back.

We're now over 90k members, and I expect that we'll see 5 million posts shortly. Mostly from Foo and P&R.

There are more responses to threads here due to hateful people who like to slam one another because they don't agree. Delete every bit of hatefulness and needless arguing, and I bet half of the responses would disappear.

You know, there are posts like that on every internet forum - even the Irish pennywhistle forum my housemate is a member of. I never would have thought that there was so much to argue about with Irish pennywhistle playing, but apparently there is.

You haven't seen anything until you've seen a bunch of women flame each other about a crochet pattern. I've seen it many a time and it's not pretty.

I wish this site was more stable though. I've almost never had an issue with getting to roadbikereview.com.

We do have a new server, we just haven't migrated yet.

I though that happened late last week when the site went down for maintenance 3 hours.
