In light of my previous post, let the dueling witticisms begin:

Comment: "Why are you taking up unnecessary space on the road?" My recent response: "Why are you taking up unnecessary road space with 4 empty seats?"

I bumped into this thread about the automatic unseen logoff problem on BF

Thread gets kinda stupid, but has some helpful hints at the end.

Hey all. Thinking about riding up to where Team BBC is racing tomorrow:

http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Essex-to-Mt-Joy-PA

Anyone wanna come? I think I need to start @ 3am to get there by 8am.

For those who have Google Earth, I've attached the route within a ZIP file. It's a neat tool to sort of pre-ride/visualize the route ahead of time.

NR, if you do head up by this route, I'd love a road report. I'm still fiddling with a 300k and you are hitting almost all of the western portion of my current version.
See: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/269220
Thanks and good riding. -GB

Josh: hows the whiplash?
Barry: Hows the hip?
This place is starting to look like a doctors office

Will do.

I doubt if my cell phone will be able to record this entire trip. I may record the return portion only so that I have some cell phone battery left for emergencies. I'll use the iBike to document the entire day's riding.

Feels fine just walking around. I've been doing the metro + bike commute this week- no twinges so far. I talk to a sports med/PT doc on monday and I've got a comprehensive bike fit appointment with Jill at Proteus on friday. By next week I should know much more about why it's happening and how to avoid recurrence. :)

NoRacer 04-10-09 11:41 AM

Just attached a Google Earth file within a ZIP file of the ride from Essex to Mt Joy to my early post about the ride if anyone has access to Google Earth and wants to play it as a tour.

The Human Car 04-10-09 02:09 PM

My progress:

On the plus side: I looked at my bike computer and my last two rides combined 53 miles, moving average 12.6! It's moving up!

On the minus side: I totally wimped going up Gun Rd coming back from MDOT today.

I'm really not sure what to do with my login problems, I've been copying to clipboard before posting to keep my frustration down but I strongly suspect the lack of code robustness on BF's part. [I got logged out posting this. :notamused:]

Gun Rd... isn't there a nasty hill on that road?

What internet provider are you with? Did you start using some sort of "accelerator" recently? Did you try deleting your cookie for BF and establish a new one (by logging in, again)?

I have all my original parts and my average wasn't much better than that. Well, I did have a few veins sucked out of my leg. I did a 50 mile east to west thing today. Legs were dead, may have to do with the hill workout I did yesterday or the run yesterday morning or the run on Wednesday. I had nothing. I did have to ride around my neighborhood a few times to make it an even fifty. I feel whipped, must be some hills on that ride.

BTW-I have a subscription with MapMyRide so if you want cue sheets of a route they're pretty good.

Gun Rd 272ft of gain in 0.8 of a mile = nasty hill

I am with Comcast, I have not done anything I remember between BF working and then not working well. Waiting for things to slow down and try some stuff. I just gave up on the Remember me box using Spock's logic (Star Trek) if going forward causes you to go backwards then go backwards to go forward.

HC203 04-10-09 05:12 PM

I've not had any trouble with BF except that it's sometimes slow to load.

The Human Car 04-10-09 07:49 PM

So far after NOT checking Remember Me I am getting logged in automatically. Go figure.

GB-Do you have any links to custom frame builders that you would like to share? As we discussed on our ride about rando bikes, may be looking to build one up. I was reading Maille's post on the custom bike builders show, wow.

These are sweet-a five year wait.

You make it up there in time NR?

Yeah, NAHBS looked great this year. When I was researching bikes before buying the Kogswell, I found many nice stock builds- Velo Orange, Gunnar "Sport", Marinoni "Sportivo", Surly "LHT", Co-Motion "Nor'Wester", Salsa "Casseroll", Soma and of course, Kogswell. The Marinoni was a real close 2nd to the Coho. Although all of these bikes are stock geometries, there are lots of custom changes you can make to them.

And, then... there's the full customs. There are so many small builders out there now making really great bikes. Great for buyers, but it seems the market can't possibly support all of them for very long. Maile's photo sets of NAHBS are a great place to start. Then look at the vendor list for NAHBS. Then scour the BF long distance and touring forums. Builders I considered seriously were: Coho ('natch), Bilenky, Independent, Mercian (old Brit rando-bike makers), Ellis (I believe these to be the most beautiful bicycles I've ever seen. Stunning.), and two locals- Balt. Bike Works (a bit expensive for their level of experience IMO) and Palermo cycles. I met Tom Palermo at the westminster bike show this year. Super nice guy, lives near Lake Montebello. Beautiful bikes, but I've never ridden one. He is likely to ride with me (he on a Palermo and me on a Coho) out to the Cirque du Cyclisme first weekend in June.

Ride out with us. It's def. the largest regional bike show on the east coast and probably lots of good builds to check out.

(whoa, you really got me talkin. Check out all those links! Shall I type another page on this topic? :D)

That's what I expected. Thanks, I should do that ride with you guys. Let me put it on the calendar.

Can't believe I signed up for Twitter this morning. I can barely stand Facebook chatter.
