Pics from Tour du Port (in reverse order) and yes the Mayor was wearing a pink jersey. FWIW I did the medium route and did an addition ride out and back to Fort McHenery to look for a lost rider.

Between reviewing the route on Friday and taking pictures today I've been doing a lot of "interval" training (a lot of stopping and then going as fast as I can for a mile or so to the next stop.) Not exactly my normal riding style but too much stopping really seems to build up excessive energy for me, so sorry for blowing past you Ellen. After Harborview I caught up with Baltimore's Director of Transportation (Al Foxx) who was doing the 20 mile route (I think.)

Speaking of Delvale what's with Balto County leaving an open "ditch" for cyclists to fall into?
There's at least a 3" gap all along this trough. This Tour du Port had a record number of last minute detours then any other Tour du Port, a major pain.

FWIW the number of registered cyclists was around 1500, a real good turn out!

Greater Brown was volunteering and Scrunge13 (not that active here) was out riding.

Hey Barry I looked for you at the end. What time did you finish riding? We had problems at North point w/ a tube that was beyond repair. Had to be swagged back. Next year we should have a few tubes to send with the ride marshals. Everyone was prepared to fix a flat, not replace a tube. That was our only problem of the day though. Charlie

I pulled into the finish around 12:05 and was sent out again around 12:20 so I was not around much at the finish. I'll pass on your comments to the organizers.

Thanks Barry - the pics look great. We spoke with the woman pulling the tandem, piccolo and trailer quite a bit at the end of the ride. They have a trailer attached to their car to get all that stuff around - dedication!

Veloellen, if you came into the Riverside park and got some munchies, then you probably saw me. I chatted with Barry for awhile. In fact, I managed to spot myself- probably cutting my 300th+ bagel , in one of Barry's pics:



Had a fun time being a volunteer. Kinda wish I could've ridden like a mad bast@rd out to North Pt. with Charlie in the fog. Sounds like he had a busy day though. I left Riverside park around 11:45AM and headed home. I wasn't too interested in mucking through Fells Pt. fest to get back to the ride start.

Barry is easy to spot due to his bike. If you weren't talking to him while he was on his bike I missed you. Thanks for cutting the bagels - I had half of one with PB (were you the guy spreading the pb rather skimpily??) and 1/4 of a banana. YUM.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I think the healing is going well. I have a follow-up with the orthopedic surgeon next Monday at which point they'll shoot more pics and decide on surgery. In the meantime, here is a picture to make you cringe:

I just did the same thing on July 4th. It's a fun experience and you'll quickly learn to hate seat belts.

Just a side note about the woman with the wagon train, when I was riding along side taking pictures they came up to a hill so she calls out "I'll need every ones help." So the kid in the back stands up and starts hammering away, definitely carrying more then his weight and possibly a future Lance Armstrong, anyway a really cute family.

Hey Barry,
I wasn't able to make it to the TDP on Sunday though I sincerely appreciate your help with that. Please consider me for a volunteer for next year's Tour Dem Parks or Tour De Port. The Sunday group that I ride with wanted to ride out to the county so I did, a beautiful forty mile ride into the Valley, not really a recovery ride.
I did the Seagull on Saturday, felt pretty good averaging about 19 mph, pulling all day long, hardly ever drafting. Seems whenever I dropped off the front the second up wouldn't hold the pace. Saw Teacher Bob and Alex there, wanted to join them but me and my gang were late out of the first rest stop.
Any other fall rides coming up?

Oct 12 The Civista Potomac Heritage Bicycle Tour La Plata, MD. 14, 33, 60, 80, and 100 miles through Southern Maryland. All routes, from the casual 14-mile family ride to the challenging 100-mile century route, will take cyclists along the scenic on-road bicycle route of the Potomac Heritage Trail National Scenic Trail. The event is sponsored by the Civista Health Foundation and proceeds will go toward necessary renovations of Civista Hospital's pharmacy, which provides critical services to hundreds of patients each and every day. Cyclists will return to La Plata to the Crossing at Casey Jones, where they will enjoy an after-ride party with food and entertainment. Pre-registration fee of $30 covers rest stops along the route, SAG support, marked routes, cue sheets, and the after-ride party. The first 250 to register also receive a t-shirt and ride souvenirs. Riders are encouraged to pre-register to be assured of getting a t-shirt and other ride souvenirs. Participants can register online at www.active.com or download a registration form. Day-of-ride registration begins at 7:00 am and is $35.

Oct 25 Between the Waters Bike Tour Wachapreague, VA. 25, 40, 60, and 100 miles through interesting historic towns and communities and along back roads to scenic rest stops that overlook the Atlantic seaside and the Chesapeake Bay. This one day bike tour is an ecotourism event and fundraiser for Citizens for a Better Eastern Shore, a non-profit organization serving Northampton and Accomack counties. Online registration or you may download a mail-in registration form. $35 per rider until September 30--$45 after October 1. Children 7-12 yrs. $15 per rider until September 30--$20 after October 1.Children 6 yrs & under free, but require a registration form and signed release form. All riders who register by September 30 will receive a T-shirt. T-shirts for those who register after October 1 will be available on a first come, first served bases and sizes cannot be guaranteed. Rest Stops with Snacks/Beverages. Picnic Lunch.

Man I hate it when hobbies clash! I am going to Florida to golf on Oct 12th weekend but would have loved to ride in the Laplata ride since that is like 8 miles from my home and I ride there after work daily almost, sometimes I go in a different direction. This sort of sucks!

House projects are backing up but hey with the financial crisis I have a feeling I'm going to have more time soon.

My route is almost identical except on leaving/entering the city, I take Annapolis Rd to Daisy Ave and I pick up Hollins Ferry Rd there.

I might come out tomorrow and ride.

This looks like an urban ride. Ilchester sounds like a wall, maybe need to switch cassettes. Still waiting on confirm of this job. Alternative is that I do my early morning ride, meet up with you guys for a bit and then head home to be back by noon. Not sure there is a way to get back to Towson area, you're heading southwest.

As long as you can manage 15mph ave., you won't get dropped by me.
As for traffic, it'll be minimal.

Well, there's a road sign showing 18% grade, so if you don't want to bust a gut going up, you may want to consider at least 39 in front, 25 in the back--most people would want to take it with a 27, though.
