Now who in their right mind would ever blatantly ignore traffic laws on a bike?

The Queensboro Bridge, my commuting mainstay, has the same inane lane separation. Perhaps some subversives could do an art project and re-paint the MUP to put in some logical lane markings.

But I suppose "The piece need not be built."

There will be a Queens Plaza redesign this spring, I am going to howl like a mad dog that they repaint the lanes to match what is on the WBB - bikes stay to the right, peds to the left. This way peds and bikes face each other. Idk about others here but I have found that way works best. I agree the current QBB markings are useless.

interesting article. I'm going to visit NYC next week and I plan to bike around the city for parts of a couple of days. Although my visit to the city last year revealed how ubiquitous bikes are, I didn't realize how bike friendly NYC has become.

you still have to be careful but there are signs of improvement, and there are just plain more cyclists. both of which are wonderful! Make sure to pick up a free DOT map, usually at any bike shop, which has all the bike lanes (current and proposed or implied).

I don't understand why they have constantly different markings depending on the bridge - make them all the same if it's mixed and all the same if it's separate and be done with it. People will get into a habit that can't be changed easily and looking at markings won't help that.

"What do the biker and double arrows mean when painted on a busy street without a bike lane? Good luck?"
